[Music] forever thank you Father for being holy God as we our time singing and worship Lord we we're transitioning to a time of of worship through your word and God I just pray this morning that you speak through brother Lincoln as he brings us your word work through him as the servant that he is and let the word be useful for teaching this morning it's in your son's name we pray amen all right kids it's time for for our children's lesson all right okay all right we'll give you guys a chance to sit okay I'm GNA do something with you guys today I'm gonna actually split you guys right down the middle right here Lucy on that side Miss Ketchum on that side oh yeah you can go to that side if you want yeah all right okay so we got we got a split here okay so uh what I need you guys to do well first I'm going to summarize the story for you today we're going to talk about a blind beggar named bamus okay and he was a uh he was a beggar sitting at the gates of Jericho and he heard that Jesus was coming by and he started crying out Jesus of the Nazarene son of David have mercy on me he would say well you know there's a bunch of people walking by with Jesus like sh pipe down stop it stop crying out and he continued to cry out louder have mercy on me Jesus well finally Jesus said okay disciples go bring him to me and he Jesus asked barus what would you want and he said I want my eyes to come back my eyesight to come back and Jesus said okay your faith has made you well and you know what he did bartimus do you think he ran off and did his own thing he follow Jesus okay so that's that's the story so what I what I'm going to ask you guys to do is uh this side we're going to play Follow the Leader okay do you guys like that game

yeah okay we're going to split up this time this side of the room you guys have to close your eyes and this side of room you guys can watch me okay and I'm going to give instructions and you need to listen and follow the instructions but you cannot open up your eyes okay you got it all right go ahead guys you guys close your eyes okay you guys follow me okay all right I want everybody to pat their head and rub their belly okay now do it backwards just kidding all right keep all right keep your eyes closed all right now I want everybody to do this keep your eyes closed oh is that fun guys it's really fun you're not even doing it okay all right okay all right all right all right okay I I think you guys get the point now I want this side to close your eyes okay you guys can open up your eyes open okay now you guys close your eyes okay let's do the same thing this time I want you guys to rub your belly clockwise and Pat your head okay okay yeah you guys got it all right now keep your eyes closed now I want you guys to do this oh he look look he's he thinks he thinks I'm going to do the same thing and all right all right I think you guys get the point now I got a few questions for you guys okay why okay you guys can open your eyes why were you guys not able to do all to follow the leader in all the things that he asked Lily we had something hindering us from being able to do it right now here's another question now if we were doing something really fun I was I was kind of hoping you guys be like yeah this is so much fun but I C I should have came up with some better uh tasks but how did it make you feel knowing that the one side was able to follow the leader while you could

not okay trying to think of something yeah did it did how how did it make you did it make you feel good like oh I wish I could have I could be doing what they're doing but you couldn't right because you had your eyes closed all right well there's two things I want you guys to understand from this the first is this and the most important it's that whenever Jesus calls you to follow him he always makes a way for that to happen if you believe okay do you guys get that right do you guys have any doubts about that if Jesus is calling you to do something and you and you physically can't do it or spiritually can't do it or whatever the situation is do you think Jesus is going to be like ah well I guess you can't do it work harder no he doesn't what does he do what did he do to baramas he gave him his eyesight back and now bamis could walk and follow them along the path that's right it's important I want you guys to know that Jesus always makes a way for you guys to follow him if you believe the second is this okay I don't want you guys to be like the crowds who are shouting down the man trying to follow Jesus okay don't do that because how did it make you feel it didn't doesn't feel very good knowing other people can follow and you can't okay when what you guys need to do is you guys need to have compassion just as Jesus has compassion every time Jesus comes across somebody who's blind or sick or lame does he have compassion on them he does and we are his followers which means we follow Jesus Jesus in having compassion with others okay all right that's all I got so let's pray dear heavenly father thank you for your word and for this beautiful story thank you for the truth found in it and thank you for the gift of faith that we

receive Lord I pray that you would uh give us all that gift so that we may have faith and come to you thank you for having compassion on us when we were sinners when we had no way of coming to you and I pray Lord that you would uh help us now as we sit and listen to uh Lincoln preach the word may you help him um and may your spirit go forward and change our lives we pray these things in Jesus name amen amen good morning so for those of you who don't know me my name is Lincoln Lily and I've been here attending this church church for just a little over a year um I arrived here August of last fall and so this been really enjoying get getting to know a lot of you guys being able to serve alongside you even and um yeah I'm currently a student at ethnos training which is just down the road in roach and I'm in year two and Lord willing looking to go overseas to bring the gospel to to those who whove never heard and um so just by way of brief testimony who I am um I yeah I accepted Christ as my savior in my elementary school years and um since then God has just been growing me in light of my shortcomings and my continual failures right and just fears he's been growing me and the knowledge of of his grace and not only the application of just how deep and wide it is in the application of resting in it but also in the application of extending it to others and so the reason I'm really excited about this morning is because I view this as an opportunity to extend the testimony of God's grace through his word to you and really from his word to me so there's um there's a verse I was thinking about uh before getting into the passage we're talking about this morning that's really had an impact on my life and it's Hebrews 12: 1 through two so I'm just going to read part of that to you um it says run with endurance the

race set before for us looking to Jesus the founder and perfector of our faith who for the joy that was set before him and totally in the wrong place and so just like Hebrews 12 as I started with man our eyes got to be on Christ because he's the only way and so if you turn with me in your Bibles to Mark chapter 1 and I'm just GNA um if we could just kind of flip through some of the chapters before getting to Mark chapter 10 and we're the passage we're going through today is verses 46-52 but Mark chapter 1 I just want to briefly just do an overview of the claims that Mark and this the characters that we've been introduced to in Mark have said about Jesus and who he is his identity and so as we're in Mark chapter 1 um and you know what let's just pray before we get into this God thank you so much for oh man just this day and um God what a privilege it is to just have your word in our own language God there's so many people groups around the world who do not have the privilege of reading your word and God thank you that you have sent your son Jesus Christ to take our place and that there is no good work there's no there's nothing we can do in and of ourselves to make ourselves right before you it's simply childlike Faith placed in your son and uh God I just pray for any who um have not accepted you as Savior that today would be that day Lord we do not know when our days will come to an end and God I just pray for the Believers in this room that that you would use this message as an encouragement to them that they would continue to look to you the founder and perfector of our faith and as we look at the testimony of barus Lord I pray that it would be yeah just an encouragement for us to continue following you amen all right so Mark chapter 1 and again I just want to briefly walk through these chapters with you and looking at those identity truths of who Christ is and the characters in The Book

of Mark that we've been introduced to and what they say about Jesus so Mark chapter one we're we're introduced to John the Baptist and we know from Isaiah chapter 40 that he was prophesied to be the one that's going to be the um the one proclaiming the one who's going to come after him he's going to prepare the way and John the Baptist he is preaching this baptism of repentance for the Forgiveness of sins and he and he T he says something about Christ and this is what he says in verse 7 he said it says and he preached saying after me comes he who is mightier than I the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie and in John chapter one it says that when John the Baptist saw Jesus he said Behold the Lamb of God who who takes away the sins of the world so again we see that Christ is the is the worthy one he is the one who has all authority and he's the one who John the Baptist isn't even worthy to entice you then as you go further down into into Mark chapter one we see that Christ is baptized and the Holy Spirit descends on him like a dove and we see another identity truth and this time it's it's coming from God the father and God the Father it says in verse 11 it says and a voice Came From Heaven you are my beloved Son with you I am well pleased so again I just I just want our attention to be drawn here because the this is who our savior is he is the one who is completely worthy he is the one who God the father says this is my son I'm in whom I'm well pleased and then as you continue on Mark chapter 1 you go to verse 24 and we see that not just John the Baptist who was a follower of God and not just God the Father are saying these identity truths about Christ but even demons acknowledge who he is so look at verse 24 it says um the unclean spirit in the

synagogue cries out I know who you are the Holy One Of God so again Christ the one who is completely worthy the one who is God the Father's son in whom he is well pleased and the one um who is the Holy One Of God this who Jesus is and then as you flip through you go all the way to chapter 4 and Jesus he's sleeping on this boat and his disciples are out on the boat and they're just freaking out because there's this massive storm and and they're yeah they're just freaking out they're super scared and Christ comes up and he calms the storm and I just think it's so incredible because it says that um yeah the disciples were filled with great fear and said to one another who then is this that even the wind and the Sea obey so we see that Christ is Creator God he's in control of everything and then you go you flip through you go all the way to to Mark chapter 8 and I remember Pastor Cody preaching through this and this is this is when Jesus even asked the question who do you say that I am to his disciples and so look at verses 27 through uh 30 it says and Jesus went on with his disciples to The Villages of cesaria Philippi and on the way he asked his disciples who do people say that I am and they told him John the Baptist and others say Elijah and others one of the prophets and he asked them but who do you say that I am Peter answered him you are the Christ and he strictly charged them to tell no one about him so this is who Jesus is he is the Christ he is the Messiah the one prophesied of old and he's the one who's going to take away the sins of the world and he did and then you go further you go to chapter nine and we see Jesus is transfigured before James and John and Peter he's talking to Moses and Elijah and once again God the Father enters into the scene and he says another identity truth about Jesus and this is what he says and in verse seven of Mark chapter 9 it says and a cloud

overshadowed them and a voice came out of the cloud this is my beloved Son listen to him this is my son that's what God the father says so again this just it's just incredible to me to see through just even those first nine chapters before we even get to John uh to Mark chapter 10 the identity truths that the characters we've been introduced to in The Book of Mark have said about Jesus like this is who he is and so here's another question I have and just something that I've been thinking through what does Jesus then referred to himself as in The Book of Mark and we we the last um handful of weeks we've been looking at looking at what Jesus even says is going to happen to him in front of his disciples and before we even get to the passage we're going through today Jesus in three different instances explains exactly what's going to happen to him to his disciples and every time the disciples are just confused it even says that Jesus explains it very plainly to them and they're they're not getting it but what is what does Jesus refer to himself self as in terms of his identity and there's a phrase he uses and this phrase is mentioned 12 times in The Book of Mark and that phrase is the son of man and that is a super incredible phrase because at first you're thinking okay son of man does that just refer to his Humanity well no actually no it refers to his deity and that he is the Messiah and so if I could just invite you to turn to Daniel chapter 7 and I'm just going to read two verses you can put a finger in mark chapter 10 we'll be there soon but Daniel 7: 13-14 this is Daniel he's receiving these Visions from God and it says in verse 13 I saw on the night visions and behold with the Clouds Of Heaven There came one like a son of man and he came to the Ancient of Days that would be God God the father and was presented before him and to him was

given dominion and glory and a kingdom that all Peoples Nation and languages should serve him his Dominion is an everlasting Dominion which shall not pass away and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed and Jesus refers to himself as this son of man because he truly is Jesus um Jesus of Nazareth is the son of man and so again I just I I promise you we'll get to Mark 10 here see but uh and these are some I'll just share some references with you guys because they're really easy easy to to to memorize and I think they'll really serve you as you study this when you go home and just throughout this next week but the three instances in which Jesus tells his disciples what's going to happen to him is Mark 8:31 Mark 9:31 and Mark 10:33 and so as you're just looking at your Bibles in your laps there let's just read those verses and let's just remind ourselves what Christ has already said is going to happen to him and again the reason we're just looking at these identity truths is because in the passage we have this morning with blind bmus he's going to say another identity truth about Jesus and I think it's just it's incredibly important for us you guys to understand who Jesus is um as he's revealed himself to be in scripture and so look at Mark 8:31 this is what Jesus tells his disciples it says and he began to teach them that the son of man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed and after three days rise again and he said this plainly verse 32 then you turn all the way to Mark 9 again very same reference in terms of uh yeah the second reference there 931 it says for he was teaching his disciples saying to them the son of man is going to be delivered into the hands of men and they will kill him and when he is killed after three days he will rise

verse 32 but they did not understand understand the saying and were afraid to ask him you go to Mark 10:33 and it says and taking the 12 again he began to tell them what was to happen to him saying see we are going up to Jerusalem and the son of man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles and they will mock him and spit on him and fog him and kill him and after three days he will rise and as that was this looking at those references this last week I couldn't help but notice that there is so much repetition and that Jesus he is he is spot on he is telling his disciples this is exactly what's going to happen and they're confused they don't understand he said it plainy plainly to them but they're not getting it and in all three of these references he has told them that the son of man will be killed and will rise three days later that's what he said every time those those three phrases are repeated and so here's not just the identity truths but then he provides the reason why why is this going to happen and so if you look at verse 45 which is the very last verse before our passage it's 45 and this is what Jesus says it says for even the son of man again same phrase there came not to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many so why Jesus is saying hey this is why I'm coming to get to give my life for you right um that that his life would be a ransom for many and we know as we will continue in The Book of Mark it's hard not to get get ahead but when the high priest ask Jesus hey are you the Christ in Mark 14 vers uh 62 he says I am and he says that um you'll see the son of man seated at the right hand of power and coming with the Clouds Of Heaven Again referring back to Daniel chapter 7

so it's just incredible to me you guys to not only see the identity truths that others claimed about Christ in this gospel but also what Jesus says about himself and he's very clear as to what's going to happen to him but also why why he came he came to serve and he came to serve Us in the greatest possible way by taking you and I's place to die and so this leads us to Mar Mar 10: 46-52 our passage this morning and just a little context because again just understanding the context of these passages is super important and even understanding what this cont or this text meant to to um the audience back in the day um so in Mark chapter 8 and again verse 31 is where Jesus first told his disciples that first time what's going to happen to him from Mark 8 ver 31 and onward Jesus and his disciples were on the way you see this phrase that's repeated so many times on the way and then they were on the way and then they were on the way just going from town to town his disciples are following them they're going to all these places and they're on the way from cesaria Philippi so that's in the north um through Galilee to Jerusalem in the South so they're like going going from the north south and then Southwest to to Jerusalem and after Christ's conversation with his disciples about who will be the greatest in the kingdom of God right that was that was last week we we're talking about with James and John and and this is when Jesus says hey I came to serve you know and the greatest will be the one who who serves and um after that conversation they leave Pera and they're continuing their way towards Jerusalem crossing the Jordan River and they come to Jericho so this is where we're at this is the passage let me read it for us us verses 46-52 and um yeah could I just ask you to stand with me in honor of God's word as we read

this so 46-52 says and they came to Jericho and as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great crowd barus a blind beggar the son of tus was sitting by the roadside and when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth he began to cry out and say Jesus Son of of David have mercy on me and many rebuked him telling him to be silent but he cried out all the more son of David have mercy on me and Jesus stopped and said call him and they called the blind man saying to him take heart get up he is calling you and throwing off his cloak he sprang up and came to Jesus and Jesus said to him what do you want me to do for you and the blind man said blind man said to him Rabbi let me recover my sight and Jesus said to him go your way your faith has made you well and immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way let's just pray again God thank you so much for this morning again and just man your your word is incredible how you've given us your Bible it's one story and it's Redemptive history of what you did for us Lord we do not deserve um your love your grace and that's why it's called Grace and I just I just pray again that you would continue to use your word to be in encouragement this morning amen all right be seated so here's the scene Christ and his disciples are now in Jericho and it says they're leaving Jericho and just like Thomas was just sharing with the kids same story right the disciples and also this great crowd are on this path and they're headed towards Jerusalem that's the the direction where they're going and we know what's going to happen into Jerusalem right Christ has already told us he's going to suffer he's going to Die 3 Days Later he's going to rise from the grave and so Jesus he's going into his last week of life before before he dies um

and um there's this blind man uh barname and he is crying out when he hears that it's Jesus of Nazareth he says son of David have mercy on me and he's crying that out repeating that phrase and the people are hushing him and he's like son of d David have mercy on me he's exasperated he is in this he's in this place of man he is the only one that can heal me and so we're GNA talk we're GNA talk about what that phrase even means son of David it's a Messianic title and uh it's just incredible it's another identity truth um so son of David this is what this is what barus is crying out and um it's a Messianic term we know that Jesus is the Messiah um another way of saying that is that he is the Christ he is the one prophesied of old to to redeem us from our sins and as you remember our great great grandparents Adam and Eve they sinned right and Romans 5 tells us that by one man sin entered into the world so we're all Sinners right our great-grandparents they sin and God he's talking to the serpent and he's saying hey the seed of the woman is going to crush crushed the head of the serpent and so we have this promise to mankind that God is going to send a redeemer so when you move from broad to specific let's think about this he not only promises this to mankind but then it gets more specific through uh this man named Abraham and I know we all know the story but I think it'll be really important for us to understand this phrase it gets specific through Abraham and in Genesis 12:3 um God tells Abraham that in him all the nations of the earth will be blessed and so and we see that Abraham who looks up at the stars he believed God it was counted him as righteousness and that surely enough Abraham he has Isaac Isaac has Jacob Jacob has 12 sons one of his sons is Judah and from the line of Judah comes King David and God

promises King David in 2 Samuel 7: 12-13 let me read it for you that there is going to be one on his throne forever and so this is what it says when your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers I will raise up your Offspring after you who shall come from your body and I will establish his kingdom he shall build a house for my name and I will establish the Throne of his kingdom forever and so here's bmus again we we're just going from BR to Pacific This Promise of the Redeemer it's going to be from the son of the line of Abraham right the the line of David and in Matthew 1:1 Jesus is introduced as the son of Abraham son of David it's like whoa wow like B was totally one story connected but here is barus and he's crying out that phrase and you know he's heard oh okay hey Jesus of Nazareth is passing by but he cries out not Jesus of Nazareth have mercy on me he says son of David and so even though this this guy bardus is blind he can't physically see he can see he he's seeing more clearly than even the ones around him who are still you know they're hushing him up and maybe that's like okay you're being a little loud hush up but maybe there's a little bit of like Hey we're not totally sure about that yet like we don't know like hush up about that don't say he's the son of David and then he cries out all the more no son of David have mercy on me he is he is adamant about this no I know that is that is the Messiah that is that is the king of Israel that's Jesus and and I just I just love that because you see that he is just in this place of exasperation he knows that Jesus is the only one that can save him and that he is the Messiah and um and so barus is crying out all the more and uh I just want to talk a little bit about just spiritual blindness a little bit because again this is barus he's a blind man and you know he could

see more clearly than than the one once you could physically see with your eyes because he was he was seeing spiritually and um so basically if I could sum up what I want to communicate in one phrase um basically it would be the cure for Spiritual blindness is first recognizing um who you are apart from Christ and your knee for him but then also recognizing Jesus for who he truly is as he's revealed himself to be and you know barus he is recognizing that he is in need of mercy and that that Mercy can only come from this man son of David and he's recognizing Jesus for who he truly is and um in John chapter nine uh I could have you just turn to John chapter 9 we see Jesus talk about blindness but like spiritual blindness and and I hope this just provides just some more context here John chapter 9 it says says in verses 35-41 and this is after healing another man with blindness it says Jesus heard that they had cast him out and having found him he said do you believe in the son of man he answered and who is he sir that I may believe him Jesus said to him you have seen him and it is he who is speaking to you he said Lord I believe and he worshiped him Jesus said for judgment I came into this world world that those who do not see may see and those who see may become blind verse 40 some of the Pharisees near him heard these things and said to him are we also blind Jesus said to them if you were blind you would have no guilt but now that you say we see your guilt remains and again so just this point that even Pharisees who could physically see with their eyes were blind spiritually they were not recognizing Jesus for who he truly is the son of man and I was listening to this this one Pastor his name is Daniel parar and on this um on this passage he said um here's how Jesus based on John nine defines spiritual blindness it is anybody who claims to

Define Christ outside of how he defines himself and who possesses a worldview that contradicts that of Christ in his word anybody who redefines Christ or changes his word and so again just as we look at this first um these first few verses 46- 48 we see just a complete exasperation barus is in we see that he recognizes Jesus for who he truly is the son of David and and we see that he could see more clearly than just even the ones around him even though he couldn't even physically see and so let's continue on let's go all the way to verse 49 and it said this is what it says Jesus you know he's hearing this this phrase son of David it says and Jesus stopped Jesus stopped and said call him and they called the blind man saying to him take heart get up he is calling you and so Jesus is basically saying like hey call him over here yeah bring him on over here and not only does Jesus call him but then the people hearing that Jesus is Calling they're like hey yeah Bame he's calling you come on go take heart and just the stark contrast of them hushing him up like hey shut up barus to then hey take heart he's calling you and so just even like how Christ has the ability to even change the hearers and the audience's perspective they're like okay oh man he's welcoming bmus okay we're going to welcome him too and man just the complete um just example Christ is um but it says Jesus stopped and the very next passage you guys is John is um not John Mark chap 11 which is Christ's triumphal entry and we've already talked a little bit about Daniel The Book of Daniel in chapter 7 referring to the son of man but there's two chapters later in Daniel chapter 9 there's this reference to the 70 weeks and we know that the 69 weeks have already come to fruition right and this is just this blows my mind just prop

Prophecy in the Old Testament and how Christ fulfills all these prophecies um but basically you know Jesus he's headed into his final week before before he dies and before he he pays the ransom for our sins and although barus didn't know it this would be Christ's last time in Jericho and it's based on this context in Daniel chapter 9 there's there's a reference to these 69 weeks and when you times the 69 weeks with 360 days in a year for the Jewish lunar calendar all these different things when when you um calculate it all up all the days in the Years add up to when Christ was going into Jerusalem on a donkey and so there's almost like this atmosphere where okay Christ and his disciples In This Crowd they're going to Jerusalem and there's almost like this time crunch he knows he's got to be either CU it's been prophesied to the day when Christ is going to enter into Jerusalem on a donkey and so it's almost like this time crunch and yet even amidst the time crunch Christ stops he stops on the path he stops on the road and he pays attention to this blind man and he says yeah hey come to me I'm calling him yeah come to me and I think that's so cool because again like the very next day is when he needs to be there and in Zechariah nine it's even it's even again prophesied that he's going to be riding on this donkey into Jerusalem as their King and so here's barus Christ stops and Christ is calling him to to just come to come to him so look at look at verse 50 this is this is barus it says and throwing off his cloak he sprang up and came to Jesus and Jesus said to him what do you want me to do for you and the blind man said to him Rabbi let me recover my sight so barus again in just complete exasperation recognizing Jesus for who he truly is he throws off his cloak and just even that's pretty significant

because you think when you think about it barus he's this blind beggar on the side of the road and probably his most valuable item would have been this cloak it's protecting him from elements it's this source of security he would probably even lay it out to um ask for people to put to put items on there right he's he's he's a beggar he can't see and that's why he's on that's why he's by this road and it says that he he just leaves it throws it off he leaves it and he comes to Jesus and I guess it just it just makes me think about the Rich Young Ruler remember what Jesus said to him just um a handful of verses earlier he said hey sell all your possessions and follow me and so we see that barus he he does what the Rich Young Ruler failed to do uh the rich one Young Ruler because of his material ralth and just his identity placed in this world he did not choose to follow Christ he did not choose to come to Christ but bmus and complete exasperation and recogn recognition of who he is right in need of Mercy he throws off the cloak and he's like hey even though that's like a very important item me I'm coming to Jesus cuz he's the son of David and so I just think that is cool and so man I just we have so much to learn from bmus his humility um his recognition of who Christ was and his just willingness to drop everything to go to him and so I guess the question is is what what are we holding back right um if you're an unbeliever in the room what's holding you back um what's holding your back holding you back from coming to Christ because his his hands his hands are open wide he has already suffered uh the sins of the world on his shoulders and he died and forgiveness is is is a gift and he says all who come to me will be saved and so that's just yeah that's the question I have is just what what is holding you back come to him look at verse 52 it says and Jesus said to him go your way

your faith has made you well and immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way and so it says that bame's Faith had made him well so again just that you know you just when when we when we approach a text like this we just it's just really good to ask questions and just even simple questions what is Faith and faith is simply taking God at his word right simple childlike faith of yeah I'm I'm going to trust you I'm going to believe you I'm going to take you at your word and that's what Bemus does here he takes God as a word and we see just even um in previous chapters very similar phrases used in terms of just their faith um has made them well and so you you just think through Mark chapter 5 and with the with the lady who was suffering with the loss of blood who touches Jesus and it says the power left him really fascinating passage um he says in verse 34 daughter your faith has made you well go in peace and be healed of your disease and then Mark chap Mark chapter 2 even earlier than that with the paralytic man that's lowered into the house just so he can hear Christ's teaching um it says in verse 5 and when Jesus saw their faith referring to the ones carrying him uh he said to the paralytic son your sins are forgiven and uh yeah again just simple faith is taking God at his word and here's bmus he's acknowledging who Christ is as he's revealed himself to be and he is he is asking for Mercy right and and Christ is the only one that can give him Mercy because he is he is God his Creator God and so what happens barus receives his sight and can you just imagine with me what that would have been like for barus I don't know based on the text if Bame was born blind I'm assuming he probably was um but maybe he had an accident or something when he was younger and then

he couldn't see anymore I don't know but Bemus first thing he sees is Jesus he sees Jesus the very one who he didn't physically see but he knew was there the son of David he then sees and Jesus tells him this is probably my favorite part of this whole passage Jesus tells him go your way your faith has made you well and where does barus go it says he follows him like you can just only imagine barus just thinking like where else am I going to go like this this man is the son of David he is the Messiah he is the king I'm gonna follow him and so then I'm just thinking through this story through the lens of bardus what he would have seen I'm sure he was probably there at the triumphal entry right these people um praising him right Hosanna Hosanna to the king who's coming and the pal branches being laid down but those same people were most likely the very same people who later on are going to say crucify him crucify him and you can only imagine where bmus is he's probably just thinking like what he's the one who healed me what are you guys saying like and it's just fascinating me to think through that but here's just kind of to yeah wrap this all up man let's be like bmus you know bmus he is this man who is in need of mercy and he recognizes it he knows it he is blind he can't see he needs healing but he recognizes who this Mercy can only come from and it's Jesus of Nazareth the son of David and he sees Christ for who he truly is and he comes to him the very first thing he sees is Christ and it's and when Jesus gives him the freedom hey go your way he chooses to follow Christ and I just love that I think that is just the neatest thing in this book and so just like barus was desperate to get to Jesus pleading for Mercy we too are helpless and in darkness in our sin just like he all you was seeing was darkness in our sin you guys we are in darkness

spiritual Darkness we are separated from God and we deserve the punishment for our sin which is eternal separation from Christ for all eternity just like bmus recognized who Christ truly was the true son of David the Messiah prophesied of old do you recognize Christ for who he truly is do you recognize him as as the Messiah as the son of David like barus is saying do you recognize him as your personal savior right and again man we would be um the just like barus didn't even know that was the last time Christ was going to be in Jericho you don't know the last day you're going to have here on Earth and it could be today this could be my last day we we don't know and so what's holding you back don't let the cloak hold you back don't let the material wealth like the Rich Young Ruler hold you back just follow Christ come to him also bmus followed Christ on the way and so I've just been thinking through Hebrews 12 1-2 this whole time um we yeah just in um kind of towards the end of my studying this and when it says that Jesus is the founder and perfector of our faith for unbelievers in this room man come to Christ he is your savior if you truly believe in him and for us Believers as well but then for the Believers in this room continue following him follow him on the way he saves you continue to follow him because he's the perfector of your faith he's the one who s sanctifies and he does that through his word he does that through other believers and so I just I just think it's so important to be in the word to be with other believers and and don't allow the struggles of life to isolate you because when we're isolated then it's so easy to be distracted and to get in our own heads and um and to really stray from truth and so again you just think through even stories like Peter he's he's on the water walking G

walking to Jesus and it says that when his attention was turned to the wind fear set in and he starts to sink and who was there Jesus grabs him by the hand picks him back up and you think about the Israelites before the Red Sea they're looking at the Egyptian Army coming at them and fear just gripped them fear is turning into doubt and they're like man like is it better for us to go back to Israel than to die here and Christ provides the one way and so again just looking to Jesus that's I think that's just the application look to Christ and realize who he is um as he's revealed himself so in conclusion yeah I really appreciate just within this body of Believers um The Clarity on what the gospel is um The Clarity of what Jesus truly did and before even understanding who Christ is and what he's what he's done on the cross I think it is crucially important important to understand who we are and what is our identity apart from Christ and so just to end our time together again I just I just want to focus on the gospel because just like Bemus is brought from Darkness to light we too as Believers in Christ were B were brought from Darkness to light and so Ephesians 2 it says and you were dead right we're dead in our trespasses and sins it says that we're following the course of this world it says we're following the prince of the power of the air that's a reference to Satan um the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disob Disobedience and it says that um among whom we all once walked in the passions of our flesh carrying out the the desires of the body and the mind and so apart from Christ we are dead we are living in darkness We are following after our own lusts and passions and it is all temporary because that's going to pass away and there is an eternity and apart from Christ uh our eternity would be apart from him yeah for all eternity um but

but in verse four of Ephesians 2 it says but God being rich in Mercy because of the great love in which he loved us even when we were dead in our trespasses made us alive together with Christ and I'll just yeah just tell you a brief kind of story here just how this has impacted my life I went to Bible school and wakasa was Wisconsin and it's just with the same organization ethnos 360 and a ton of these identity truths just hit me like understanding who I am in Christ and I never ever understood before going to Bible School the whole concept of being an heir with Christ that that's actually like that's true of Believers that you will reign with him on the new on the new Earth like whoa that's incredible or yeah the millennial Kingdom and uh it's just incredible to me that you go from being an enemy of God right we're living in darkness we are dead in our trespasses and sins to then being made alive through faith in Christ and we're future heirs with him we are forgiven we are redeemed we're in that Circle of in Christ and there's nothing that can change that there's eternal security and so in Bible School some verses that were just so incredibly impactful for me and I've shared this with others but I hope this is encouraging to you was Romans 51 and Romans 81 and again just verses that are easy to memorize just stick with you but verse Romans 5 says you are Justified meaning declared um righteous by faith and you have received peace with God and that peace is not subjective it's not rolling with the with the waves it's objective peace it is sealed you are yeah see what the Holy Spirit you are you have peace with God and Romans 81 says there's no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus and you guys man when I just think about barus and just this picture of being brought from Darkness to light and just what that even means for you and I as Believers that that brings so much

comfort knowing that when Christ when he makes us alive through faith in Christ um there's nothing that can separate us from his love nothing that can um uh take us out of his clenched hands and so those are just truths that we got to hold on to and so with all this to say man let's be like Bame let's recognize our sin let's come to him and as Believers let's keep coming to him not not for not to be saved again no that's one and done right but to continue to look to him as the perfector of our faith because he's the one we're going to be with for all eternity and man I know you guys are looking for forward to that and I am as well and so that's what I have to share with you um I hope this just an encouragement and as we go into Mark chapter 11 next next week God thank you so much for yeah this this morning um what an incredible incredible story God of you saving bmus um God it can be so easy to get lost in yeah just the um in the story and to not even just realize um what that atmosphere would have looked like but God just like Bame we are just so in need of mercy and God I thank you that you have provided mercy and you provided Mercy through your son and Lord that that we are saved um nothing not not because of what we've done but because of what you've done and nothing can change that and God I I just want to pray for the unbelievers in this room God that today would be the day that they would not wait another day um just yeah living living for themselves L Lord that they would that they would come to you recognize who you are as you've revealed yourself God thank you for your love for us and that you've loved us first amen hello um we who are in Christ um and thanks Lincoln for explaining that so clearly um we get the privilege of sharing in the Lord's Supper that's what we're going to do now in this part of

the service the last part of the service I like reading through the gospels because in each gospel it has the account of the Lord sharing this last supper with his disciples before he went to the Cross um you read through them each one describes it a little differently uh describes a little more detail and kind of fills out the story one of my favorites is in John because it tells the most parts of the story the whole chapter 133 in the Gospel of John is based on events that happened during that Lord's Supper um it starts out in verse one and says Jesus loved his disciples to the end and now he's going to explain more of that uh after the supper he washed their feet he what Jesus the son of God washed the feet of the disciples they had a little problem with that but he explained it um then after that he predicted that one of them was going to betray him you know he's blowing their minds just point by Point here and then after Judas had left to do that betrayal Jesus gave the disciples a new command and in verses 34 and 35 of the Gospel of John he tells them a new command I'm giving you love one another not like you've heard it before but the same way that I have loved you and the way that you show this love that you have for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples so that love that Jesus had for his disciples they were to share with one another because they were becoming the first members of the body of Christ we now many generations later share that we are the part of the body of Christ we who have trusted him for our Salvation so as a part of the body of Christ we get to remember what he has done for us and this Ceremony this celebration that he

gave us that we know of as the Lord's Supper is the way that he has told us to uh remind ourselves all that he has done for us so as you folks would come forward the men that are going to serve I'd like to uh just in general let you know that we celebrate the Lord's Supper as a recognition of his death to pay the price for our sins which has brought us as we have believed in him into the body of Christ and so we're celebrating this as a group as a as a body of believers who are saved by his blood okay this celebration is for believers Sinners who are forgiven by trusting Christ's death for the payment for our sin now we're given a model in First Corinthians that isn't for the 12 disciples if if you read through the uh gospel accounts this supper that Jesus shared was just with the 12 disciples it was special for them but as we look at the account in First Corinthians that's where the instructions are given to the church to the body of Christ this is how I'd like for you guys to celebrate what the Lord has done for you so I'm going to read some verses here then we're going to pass out the elements and celebrate together What the Lord Has Done For Us in verse 23 of chapter 11 Paul writes I receive from the Lord that which I also delivered to you that the Lord Jes Jesus in the night in which he was betrayed took bread so if you men would pass out the bread we all will take one and as once we have it all in front of us we'll partake together while it's coming out I'm going to ask the Lord to bless our time as we do that father we do come before you thank you for the gift that you've given given us of Life In Christ and we pray that as we

celebrate your death uh we also will celebrate the life that you've given us so we thank you for that privilege in Christ's name amen [Music] I [Music]
