That today would be that day Lord we do not know when our days will come to an end and God I just pray for the Believers in this room that you would use this message as an encouragement to them that they would continue to look to you the founder and perfector of our faith and as we look at the testimony of barus Lord I pray that it would be yeah just an encouragement for us to continue following you amen all right so Mark chapter 1 and again I just want to briefly walk through these chapters with you and looking at those identity truths of who and the characters in The Book of Mark that we've been introduced to and what they say about Jesus so Mark chapter 1 we're we're introduced to John the Baptist and we know from Isaiah chapter 40 that he was prophesied to be the one that's going to be the one proclaiming the one who's going to come after him he's going to prepare the way and John the Baptist he is preaching this baptism of repentance for the Forgiveness of sins and he and he T he says something about Christ and this is what he says in verse 7 he said it says and he preached after me comes than I a strap of who sandals I am not down and in one it says that when John the Baptist saw Lamb of God takes away the sins of the world so again we see that Christ is the is the worthy one he is the one who has all authority and he's the one John the Baptist isn't eventi you then as you go further down into Mark chapter 1 we see that Christ is baptized and the Holy Spirit descends on him like and we see another truth and this time it's it's from God the father and God the Father it says in ver my beloved Son with you I am well pleased so I just want our attention to be drawn here because the this is who our he is the one is completely worthy

One who God the father says this is my son I'm in whom I'm well pleased and then as you continue on Mark chapter 1 you go to verse 24 and we see that not just John the Baptist who was a follower of God just God the Father are saying these identities truths about Christ but even demons look at verse 24 it says the unclean Spirit you are the Holy One Of God so again Christ the one who is completely worthy the one who is God the Father's son in whom he is well pleased and the one who is the Holy One Of God this is who Jesus is as you flip through you go all the way to chapter 4 sleeping on this boates are out on the boat and they're just freaking out because there's this massive and they're just freaking out they're super scared and Christ comes up and he calms the storm and I just think it's so incredible because it says that yeah the disciples were filled with great fear and said to one another who then is and the Sea obey so we see that he's in control of everything through you go way to Mark chapter 8 and I remember pastor codye this is Jesus even asked the question who do you say that I am to and so look at verses 27 through it says and Jesus went on with his disciples to The Villages of cesaria Philippi and on the way he asked his who do people say and they told him John the Baptist and others said and others one of the prophet and he asked them but who do you say that I am Peter answered him you are the Christ strictly charged them to tell no one about him so who Jesus is the Christ he is the Messiah the one prophesied of old he's going to take away the sins of the world and he did and then you go you go to chapter n and we see Jesus is trans James and John and

Peter he's talking to moah and once again God the Father enters into the scene and he says another identity truth and this is what he says in verse seven of Mark chapter 9 it says and a cloud shadowed them and a voice came out of the cloud this is my beloved Son listen him this is my son that's what God the father says and so again this is incredible through those first nine chapters before we even get to John to Mark chapter 10 the identity truths used to have said about Jesus this is who he is and so here's another have and just something that I've been thinking through what does Jesus then refer to himself as in The Book of Mark and we've we've the handful of weeks we've been looking at looking at what Jesus even says happen to him in front of his disciples and before we even get to the passage we're going through today Jesus in three different instances explains exactly what's going to happen to him to his disciples and every time the disciples are justed it even says that Jesus explains very plainly to them and getting it but what is what does Jesus refer to himself as in terms of his identity and there's a phrase he uses and this phrase is mentioned 12 times in The Book of Mark and that phrase is the son of man and that is a super incredible phrase because at first you're thinking okay son of man does that just referred to as Humanity well no actually no it refers deity and that he is the Messiah and so if I could invite you to turn to Daniel chapter 7 and I'm just going to read you're in Mark soon 7: 13-4 this is Daniel he's receiving these Visions from God and it says in 13 I visions and behold with the Clouds Of Heaven There came one like a son of man and he came to the Ancient of

Days and was presented before him and to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom that all peoples Nations and land him ing Dominion shall not pass away and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed and Jesus refer as this son of man because he truly is Jesus Jesus of Nazareth is the son of man and so I trust I promise you we'll get to Mark 10 here but and these are some I'll just share some references with you guys because they're really easy to memorize you as this when you go home and just throughout this next but the three instances in which Jesus tells his what's going to happen to him is Mark 8:31 Mark 9:31 and Mark 10:33 and so as you're just looking at your Bibles in your laps there let's just read those verses and let's just remind ourselves what Christ has already said is going to happen to him and again the reason we're just looking at these identity truths is because in the past Mage we have this morning with he's going to say truth about Jesus and I think it's just incredibly important for us you guys to understand who Jesus is as he's revealed himself to be in Scripture that the son of man must suffer things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes be killed and after three days again and he said this plainly verse 32 then you turn all the way to Mark n again very same reference in terms of yeah the second reference there 931 it says for he was teaching his disciples saying to them the son of man is going to be delivered into the hands of men and they will kill him and when he is killed three days he will rise but they did not understand the saying you go to Mark 10:33 and it says and taking the 12 again he began to tell them what was to

Happen to him saying see we are going up to Jerusalem and the son of man will over to the chief priests and the scribes and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles and they will mock him and spit on him and flog him and kill him and after three days he will rise and as I was just looking those references this last week I couldn't help but notice that there is so much repetition and that Jesus he is he is spot on he is telling his disciples this is exactly what's going to happen and they're confused they don't understand he said it plain to them but they're not getting it and in all three of references he has told them that the son of man will be killed and will rise three days later said every time those those three phrases are repeated and so here's not just the identity truths but then he provides the reason why is this going to happen and so if you look at verse 45 which is the very ver before our passage it's verse 45 this is what Jesus says it says the son of man again phrase there came not to be served but to serve and his life as a ransom for many so why Jesus is saying hey you that his life would be a ransom for me and we know as we'll continue not to get ahead but when the Christ and Mark 14 verse 62 he says I am and he says that you'll see the son of man see hand of power and coming with the Clouds Of Heaven Again referring to back Daniel chapter 7 so it's this incredible you guys identity truth others claimed about Christ in but also what Jesus says about himself and he's very clear as to what's going to happen to him but also why he came to serve and he came to serve Us in the greatest possible way you and I's place to die and so this leads us to

Mark 46- 52 our passage this morning and just a little context because again this understanding of is super important and even understanding what this cont or this text meant to the audience back in the day so in Mark and again verse 31 is where Jesus his disciples that first time what's going to happen to him verse 31 and onward Jes were on the way you see this phrase times on the way and then they were on the way and then they were on the way just going from town to town his disciples they're going to all these places and they're on the way CES that's in the north through Galilee Jerusalem in the South so they're like going south and then Southwest to Jerusalem and conversation with his disciples about kingdom of God right that was last week we were talking about and John and when Jesus says hey I came to serve you know and the greatest will be the one who serves and after that conversation and they're continuing their way towards Jerusalem crossing the Jordan River come to Jericho so this is where we're at this is the let me read it for us verses 46- 52 could I ask you to stand with me in honor of God's word as we read this so 46-52 says and they came to Jericho and as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples a great crowd a blind beggar the son of tus by the roadside and when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth cry out and say Jesus Son of David have mercy on me and many rebuked him telling him to be silent the more son of David have mercy on me Jesus stopped and call him and they called the blind man saying to him take get up he is calling you and throwing off his he sprang up and came to Jesus and Jesus said to him what do

You want me to do for you and the blind man said blind man him Rabbi let me recover my sight and Jesus said to him go your way your faith has made you well and immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the let's just pray again God thank you so much for this morning again and just man your word is incredible how you've given us Bible it's one story and it's Redemptive history of what you did for us we do not deserve your love Grace and that's why it's called Grace and I just I just pray again that you would continue to use your word and encouragement this morning amen all right be seated so scene Christ and his disciples are now in Jericho and it says they're leaving Jericho and just like Thomas was just sharing with the kids same story right the disciples and also this great crowd are on this path and they're headed towards Jerusalem that's the direction where they're going and we know what's going to happen to Jerusalem right Christ has already told us he's going to suffer he's going to die three days later he's G and so Jesus he's going into his last week of life before before he and this blind man barus when he hears that it's he says son of David have mercy on me and he's crying that out people are hushing him and he's like son of David have mercy on me he's exasperated in this he's in this place man he is the only one heal me and so we're we're going to talk about what that phrase even means son of David it's a Messianic title it's another identity truth it's a Messi term we know that Jesus is the Messiah another saying that is that he is the Christ he is the one prophesied of old to Adam and Eve they s that by one man sin entered into the world so we're all Sinners right our

Great- grandparents they sin and God he The Serpent and he's saying hey the seed of the woman is going to crush the head of the serpent and so we have this promise that God is gonna send a Redeemer so when you move from broad to specific just think about he not only promises this to mankind but then it gets more specific through named Abraham and I know we all know the story I think it'll be really important for us to understand this phrase it gets specific through Abraham and in Genesis 3 God tells Abraham that in him all the nations of the earth will be blessed and so and we see that Abraham looks up at the stars he believed God it was counted to him as righteousness and that surely enough he has Isaac Isaac has Jacob Jacob has 12 sons one of his son is Judah and from the line of Judah comes King David and God promises King David 2 Samuel 7: 12-3 let me read it for you thatone and so this is what it says when your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers I will raise up your Offspring after you who shall come from your body and I will establish his kingdom build a house for my name and I will establish the Throne of his kingdom forever and so here's bar again we're just going from brought to This Promise of the Redeemer it's GNA be from the son of the line of Abraham right David and in Matthew 1:1 Jesus is ined as the son of Abraham son of David it's like whoa wow like B was totally once but here and he's crying out that phrase and you know he's heard oh okay hey is passing by but he out not Jesus of Nazareth have mercy on me he says son of David and so even this guy B rushing him up and maybe that's like okay you're being there's hey we're not totally sure about that yet like we don't know like hush up about that don't say he's the

Son of David and then he cries out all the more no son of David have mercy on me he is adamant about this no I know that is that is the Messiah that is that is the king of Israel that's Jesus and I just love that because you see that he is just in this place of Jesus is the only one that can save him and that Messiah and so barus is crying out all the more and I just want to talk a little bit about spiritual a little bit because again this is barus he's a blind man you know he could see more clearly than see with their eyes because he was he was seeing spiritually and so basically if I could sum up what I want to communicate in one phrase basically it would be blindness is first recognizing who you are in your KNE for him but then also recognizing Jesus for who he truly is as you know bmus he is recognizing that he need of mercy and that Mercy can only come from man son of David and he's recognizing Jesus for who he truly is and in John chapter nine I could have you just turn to John talk about blindness but like spiritual blindness and I hope this just provides just some more context here John chapter 9 it says in verses 35 and this is after healing another man with blindness it says cast him out and having found him he said do you believe in the son of man he answered and who is he sir that I may believe him Jesus said to him you have seen him and it is he who is speaking to you said Lord I believe and he worshiped him for judgment I came into this world that those who do not see may see and those who see may become blind verse 40 some of the Pharisees near these things and said to him are we also blind Jesus said to them if you would have no guilt but now that you say we see remains and again so just this point

That could physically see with their eyes were blind spiritually they were not recognizing Jesus man and I was listening to this one Pastor his name Daniel prar and on this on this passage here's Jesus based on John spiritual blindness it is anybody who claims to Define Christ outside of how he defines himself and who possesses a worldview that contradicts that of Christ in his word anybody who redefines Christ or changes his word as we look at this first these first few 46 through 48 we see just a complete we see that he recognizes Jesus who he truly is the son of and we see that he could see more clearly than just even the ones around him even though he couldn't even physically see so let's continue on let's go all the way to verse 49 and it said this is what it says Jesus you know he's heing this phrase son of David it says and Jesus stopped Jesus stopped and said call him and they called the blind man saying to him take heart get up he is calling you and so Jesus is basically saying hey call him over yeah bring him on over here and but then the people hearing that Jesus is Calling they're like hey yeah bmus he's calling you come on go take heart and just the stark contrast of them Hing him up like hey shut up bmus to then hey take heart he's and so just even like how to even change the hearers and the audience's perspective they're like okay oh man he's welcoming bmus okay we're gonna welome to and complete example Christ is but it says Jesus stopped and the very next p guys is John is not Mark chap 11 which is Christ's triumphal entry and we've already talked a little Daniel The Book of Daniel in chapter 7 referring to the son of man but there's two chapters later in Daniel chapter 9 there's this reference to the 70 weeks and we know that the 69 have

Already come to flu right and this blows my mind just Prophecy in the Old Testament and how Christ fulfills all these prophecies but basically you know he's headed into his final week before before he dies and before he pays the ransom for our sins and although barus didn't know it this would be Christ's last time in jerich and it's based on this context in Daniel chapter there's there's a reference to these 69 weeks and when you times the 69 weeks 360 days in a the Jewish lunar calendar all these different things you calculate it all up all the days and the years add up to Christ was going into Jerusalem on a and so there's almost like this atmosphere where okay Christ and his disciples In This Crowd they're going to it's almost like this knows he's got to be there because it's been prophesied to the day so it's almost like this time crunch and yet even amidst the time crunch Christ stops he stops on the path he stops on the road pays attention to this blind man and he says yeah hey come to me I'm calling him yeah come to me and I think that's so cool because again like the very next day is when he needs to be there and in Zechariah 9 it's even it's even again prophesied that he's going to be riding on this donkey into Jerusalem here's barus Christ stops and Christ is calling him to just come to come to him so look at look at verse 50 this is this is barame it says and throwing off his cloak he sprang up and came to Jesus and what do you want me to do for you and the blind man said to him Rabbi let me sight so bamus again in just complete exasperation recognizing Jesus for who he truly is he throws off pretty significant because you think when you think about it barus is this blind beggar on the of the road and probably the most valuable item would

Have been this CL it's protecting him from the elements it's this source of security he would even lay it out to ask for people to put items on there right he's he's he's he can't see and that's why he's on that's why he's by this Riv and it says that Hees it throws it off he leaves it and he comes to Jesus and I guess it just about the Rich Young Ruler remember what Jesus said to him just a handful of verses earlier he said hey sell all your and follow me and so we see that barame Miss he does Young Ruler failed to do the Rich Young Ruler because of material ralth and world he did not choose to follow Christ he did not choose to come to Christ and complete aspiration and recogn recognition of who he is right in need of Mercy he throws off the cloak and he's like hey even though that's very important item to me I'm coming to Jesus because he's the son of David and so I just that so cool so man I just we have so much to learn from barame his humility was and his just willingness to drop everything to go to him so I guess the question is what are we right if you're an unbeliever in the room back holding your back holding you back from Christ because his hands his hands are open wide he already suffered the sins of the world on his shoulders and he died and forgiveness gift as all who come to me will be saved and so that's the question I have is just what is holding you back come to him look at verse 52 said to him go your way your faith is made you well and immed recovered his sight and followed him on the way it says that bame's Faith had made him well so again just that you know you just when we when we approach a text like this we just it's just really good to ask questions and questions what is Faith and faith is simply word right

Simple childlike faith of yeah I'm I'm going to trust you I'm going to believe you I'm going to take you at your word ameus does here he takes God as a word and we see just even in previous chapters very similar used in terms of just their faith well and so you think through Mark chapter 5 and with the suffering with the loss of blood who touches Jesus and it says the power left him fascinating passage he says in verse 13 your faith has made you well go in peace healed of your disease and then Mark chap Mark chapter two even earlier than that with the paralytic man that's lowered in the house just so he can hear Christ's teaching it says in verse 5 when Jesus saw their faith referring to the ones carrying him he said to the paralytic sins are forgiven and again just simple faith is and here's bmus he's acknowledging who Christ is to be and he is he is asking for Mercy right and Christ is the only one that can give him Mercy he is God his Creator God and so what happens barus s and can you just imagine with me what that would have been like for Bame I don't know based on the text if barus born blind I'm assuming he probably was but maybe he had an accident or something when he was younger and then he couldn't see anymore I don't know but barus first thing he sees is Jesus he sees Jesus the very one who he didn't knew was there the son of davidus tells him go your way your faith has made you well and where does it say like you can just only imagine barus just thinking like else like this man is the son of David he is the Messiah he is the king I'm follow him and so then just thinking through this story through the

Lens of bar what he would have seen I'm sure he was probably there at the triumphal entry right these people praising him right to the king who's coming and the palm branch is being laid down but those same people were most likely the very same people who later on are going to say crucify him crucify him imagine where bmus is he's probably just thinking like what he's the one who me what are you guys saying like and just fascinated me to think through that here's just kind of to yeah wrap this all up man let's be like let's be like barus you know bmus he is this man is in need of mercy and he recognizes it he knows it is blind he can't see he needs healing but he recognizes who this can only come from and it's Jesus of Nazareth the son of David and he sees Christ for who he really is and he comes to him the very first thing he sees his Christ and it's and when hey go he chooses to follow Christ and I just love that I think that is just the neatest thing in this book and so just like barus is desperate to get to Jesus pleading for Mercy we too are helpless and in darkness in our sin just like we was seeing was darkness in our sin you guys we are in darkness spiritual Darkness we are separated from God and we deserve the punishment for our sin which is Christ for all eternity just like barus recognized to Christ the true son the Messiah prophesied of old do you recognize Christ for who he truly is do you recognize him as the Messiah as the son of David like barus is saying do you recognize Savior right and again man we would be the just barus didn't even was the last time Christ was going to be in Jericho you don't know the last day you're going to have here on Earth and it could be

Today this could we don't know and so what's holding don't let the cloak hold you back don't let the material wealth like the Rich Young Ruler hold you back Christ come also barus followed Christ on the way I've just been thinking through Hebrews 12 1 through two this whole time or yeah just in kind of towards the end of my studying this and when it says that Jesus is founder and perfector of our faith for unbelievers in this room man come to Christ he is your Savior if truly and for us Believers as well for the Believers in this continue following him follow him on the way he continue to follow him because he's the perfector of your faith who sanctifies and he does that through his word he does that Believers and so I just I just think it's so important be in the word to be with other believers don't allow the struggles of life to isolate you because when we're isolated then it's so easy to Beed and to get in our own heads and a really truth and so think through even stories like Peter he's on the water walking walking to Jesus and it says that when his attention was turned to the wind fear set in and he starts to sink and who was there Jesus grabs him by the hand picks him back up and you think about the isra before the Red Sea they're looking at the Egyptian Army coming at them and fear just gripped them fear is turning into doubt they're like man like is it better for us to go back to Israel than and Christ the one way and so again just looking to Jesus that's that's just the application look to Christ and realize who he is as he's revealed himself so in conclusion yeah I really appreciate just this body Believers The Clarity on what the is U the clarity of what Jesus truly did before even understanding who Christ is and what he's what he's done on the cross I think it is crucially understand

Who we are and what is our apart from Christ just to end our time together again I just I just want to focus on the Gospel because likeus is brought from dark to light we too as Believers were brought from Darkness to light and so Ephesians we're dead right we're dead in our trespasses and sins it says that we're following the course of this world it says we're following the prince of the power of the air that's a reference to Satan now work in the Disobedience and it says that whom we all once walked in the passions of our flesh carrying out the desires of the body and the mind and so apart from Christ we are dead we are living in darkness We are following after our own lusts and passions and it is all temporary because that's going to pass away and there is an eternity and apart from Christ our eternity would be apart from him yeah for all eternity but of Ephesians 2 it says but God being rich in Mercy because of the great love and loved us even when we were dead in our trespasses made us alive together and I'll just tell you a brief kind of story just how this has impacted my life I went to Bible school and walk and it's this organization ethnos 360 and truths hit me like understanding who I am in Christ and I never ever understood before going School the whole concept with Christ actually like that's true of Believers that you will reign with him on the new on the new Earth like whoa that's incredible or yeah the millennial Kingdom and incredible to me that you go from being an enemy of God right living in Darkness we are dead in our trespasses and sins to then being made alive Christ we're future HS with him we are forgiven we are redeemed we're in that Circle of

In eternal security and so in Bible School some verses that were just so incredibly impactful for me and I've share this with others but I hope this is encouraging to you was 51 and Romans 81 and again just verses that are easy to memorize to stick with you but verse Romans 5 says you're Justified meaning declared righteous by faith and you have received peace with God and that peace is not subjective it's not rolling with the with the waves it's objective peace it is sealed you are yeah sealed with the Holy Spirit you are you have peace that and Romans 81 says there's no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus and guys man when I just think about baras and just this picture of brought from Darkness to light and just what that even means for you and I as Believers that brings so much comfort KN that when Christ when he makes us alive through faith there's nothing that can separate us from his love that can take us out of his and so those are just truths that we got to hold on to and so with all this to say let's be like Bame let's recognize our sin let's come to him and as Believers let's keep coming to him not one and done right but to continue to look to him as the perfector because he's the one we're going to be with for all eternity looking I am as well and so that's what I have to share with you this is encouragement and as we go into Mark 11 so much for yeah this incredible story God of you saving bmus God so easy to get lost in just the in the story and to not even just realiz what that atmosphere would have looked like but God just like barus we are just so in need of and God I thank you that you have provided mercy and you provided Mercy through your

Son Lord that we are saved nothing not because of what we've done but because of what you've done and nothing can change that want to pray for the unbelievers in this room God that today would be the day that they would not wait another day just yeah living living for themselves that they would come to you recognize who you are God thank you for your love for us and that amen hello we who are in Christ thanks Lincoln for explaining that so we get the privilege of sharing in Lord's going to do now this part of the service the last part of the service I like reading through the Gospel Els because in each Gospel it has the account of the Lord sharing this last supper with his disciples before he went to the Cross you read through them each one describes it a little differently describes a little more detail and kind of fill Story one of my favorites is in John because it tells the most parts of the story the whole chapter 13 in the Gospel of John is based on events that happened during that Lord's Supper it out in verse one and says Jesus loved his dises to the end after the supper he washed their feet what Jesus the son of God washed the feet of the disciples they had little problem with that but he explained it then after that he predicted that one of them was going to be you know blowing their minds just point by Point here after Judas had left to do that betrayal Jesus gave the disciples a new command and in vers 34 and 35 of the Gospel of John he tells them a new command I'm giving you one another not like you've heard it before

But the same way that I the way that you show this love that you have for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples love that Jus had for his disciples they were to share with because the first me of the Body of Christ we now many generations later share that we are the part of the body of Christ we who have trusted our Salvation so as a part of the body we get to remember what he has done for us and this Ceremony this celebration that he gave us that we know of as the Lord's Supper is the way that he told us to remind ourselves all that he has done for us so as you folks would come for that are going to serve I'd like to just in general let you know that we celebrate the Lord's Supper as a recognition of his death to pay the sin believed him into by of Christ and so we're celebrating this as a group as a as a body of believers who are saved by his blood okay this celebration forgive by trusting Christ's death for the payment for our sin now we're model in First Corinthians that for the 12 disciples read through the Gospel accounts this supper that Jesus shared was just with the 12 disciples it was special but as we look at the account in First Corinthians
