What I do know is that God has called us to go into all the world and make disciples and this trip is part of that greater commission join me in faithful prayer and stay tuned what God has started he will bring to pass amen details to [Applause] follow all interested there we go hey and if you are at all interested in being a part of that team to pray to support to go to Africa please fill out one of those forms that's in your bulletin and drop it off in the offering plate and let's get the ball rolling on developing some of these teams please remember to be in prayer for the walgets and the Johnson's hey we've got a couple of things here one thing that was asked by a local Pastor his name is Colton right he's pastor at ly Creek Baptist Church he asked our church to pray because they had a family that got into a really bad accident earlier this week with their car and the dad the husband is one you know he's the bread winner he's it's one income family he's hurt and so you can get information about how to support that family on LY Creek Baptist Church's Facebook page if you at all feel led to give and support to that give support to that family please do so you know it's all about it's all about the kingdom of God Amen so just be sure to go on to Facebook and check that out also in your bulletin if you don't get one of these bulletins grab them there's chalk full of information and one of the things that we're doing is something called supper eight supper eight and what that is it's just eight four couples or eight singles and you know pretty much we're just drawing names out of a hat pretty much and what we're going to do is over the next four months those eight people are going to be getting together for
Meals you guys might remember this from several years back I'm guessing probably before 2016 because I think that the last time that we did it was back in before I came on staff here and basically you get together with different folks that you may not know and I think that our church could benefit from something like that where you have young adults with senior adults people with huge families with those who are single those who maybe widows with huge families or something like that I think that our church could benefit from something like that don't you amen and so fill that out if you're at all interested those are going to come in and the last day to sign up for that is in February February 11th and those groups will be put out by the 18th so that way we can all have our groups and get those all squared away so let's see here we got the potluck right after service today as well as our business business meeting at 1:30 someone said Cody why on Earth did you schedule a business meeting when the Chiefs are in the playoffs I didn't know when we scheduled this that the Chiefs are going to be playing that too and so I plead for your forgiveness but you know business still has to happen we still got a church that has to run and decisions that have got to be made so if you could be there that's great if you didn't remember to grab anything for the potlock gerbs is right down the road and go grab some tater salad I know that we're grabbing fried chicken and so just make sure that you get do what you got to do okay it's a business meeting at 1:30 also if you are at our church we are going to be taking communion of course you're at our church we're going to be taking communion today and some of these you may want to shake them make sure that there's a piece of communion bread
In there because we got these sometimes they just when they manufacture them they forget that little piece it's kind of important but make sure that during our meet and greet time you go and you receive these elements at each one of our entrances you don't have to be a member of our local church but you do have to be a Christian and know that without a doubt that you are going to spend eternity in heaven with Christ because of your faith in what he's done for you today I will not be preaching we've got Nick Keller he's the president of the local Christian motorcyclist Association that's going to be bringing the word today amen it's going to be a short sermon today guys so praise the Lord and so just be praying for him as he comes forward and shares the word with y'all later on in the service at this time maybe you could find a friendly face and just shake their hand say welcome to First Baptist Church e Eli Bon how are you doing sir e spe well good morning church it's good to see you here this morning and it's good to be in the house of the Lord today I always try it first but sometimes they have to help me out which is a good thing it's good to hear the Saints fellowshipping with one another I think the Lord is glorified in that it's good to see you here this morning I'd like to invite you now to just take a moment and ask the Lord to prepare you for corporate worship today so I invite you to Bow your heads and close your eyes and ask the Lord to prepare your hearts and Minds for worship dear Lord I Thank you for the opportunity that we have to come

So which this doesn't make me any more special than anyone else here but what it does do is it tells you that I am a servant of God we will dig into that here in a bit and I want to also tell you about my wife and my kids and so my wife candy we have seven kids we also have two little girls that live with us that aren't our kids but the ages go from 18 months to 16 years old that's a big span my wife and kids are often involved in the ministry that I sign up for they come with me to biker events which I believe they have fun at most of the time they pass out giveaway things like Bible tracks cross pennies U bracelets and Bibles but fun or not the kids are getting to see and be a part of what Jesus has called us to do I have watched my kids and wies stand next to me while holding a stranger's hand pray with someone and they've seen other men and women that love Jesus and share their faith in the Gospel with strangers and loving on all kinds of people now how cool is that your kids getting to see what Ministry is about I'm sure that sometimes they're embarrassed by what I do or what my wife is doing or what the ministry entails because you know they're like man my dad's up there telling them about God and these people clearly don't want to hear about God you know they're out there having a good time well you know we're not here to care about what those people think we're here to care about what God thinks and we're here to share the Gospel and share his message so I'm sharing this with you because a lot of people believe that when Jesus says follow me that we must drop our whole lives and follow him that's not exactly what he's saying following Christ can be a family adventure also parents it's our job to lead our
Children so why not take them along and allow the Lord to utilize the whole family to build his kingdom so now I know most of you are like this dude's a deacon he's up here he's wearing his hat he's got this patches on you know but yes the answer is the answer is yes and you might not see me every Sunday but I'm assuring you I'm not skipping church I'm also the president of the Christian motorcyclist Association or CMA here at the lake and our goal of CMA is to reach motorcyclists with the Gospel of Christ but it doesn't stop there we wear our patches and our logos all the time how many of you have seen me here and I'm almost always wearing a vest or a shirt that says CMA or a hat or something that is really just telling you about what I'm all about and what and who and who God is so we don't do this because we're proud of our group but because it's a Ministry tool many times I've been out there wearing this vest not at a motorcycle event but at a gas station at Walmart and I have the opportunity to share the love of Christ with somebody just because they see what I standing for who I am because of what they see on my clothing now I wore my good clothes for you today I put on some jeans that aren't holy I even wore a button-up shirt but even my button-up shirts have what I stand for on it okay so this is it's it's a lifestyle this is not a Sunday morning thing this is a go out every day into the world and be a Christian present the Gospel am I'm going off my sermon here I haven't even looked at it for a moment but so let me get back on track so each CMA chapter has their own name okay their own their own chapter name we're all CMA but we each have our own individual individual things ours is
This little patch here it's called Fishers of Men which is pretty fitting here at the lake being a fisher of men is what we're going to discuss today along with three commands that Jesus gives us in this passage being a fisher of men and a follower of Jesus is not a part-time job God can use you anytime and we need to be ready and obedient so one of my favorite Ministry stories happened right here in Campton I heard they were having a bike night at one of the local bars if you guys SE heard or been to leprechaun corner it's over there right past High brothers and the seven Trails area Okay so they have they're having a bike night so I stop in I go to the bar up to the bar I order a water I ask for it in a clear cup so people can tell I'm not drinking beer or whatever and I'm wearing my vest I have several vests this one is my clean one my nice one but I have some that are just dirty and filthy and disgusting and then I have some we have all kinds of leather bikers have all kinds of Leather So anyways I'm wearing a vest I'm at the bar I'm standing around there looking talking to people and there's a this place is hopping there's a band going there's people like standing up at standup barall Styles they're sitting at tables they're having a good time there's people outside on the patio and I get the chance to stand there and just watch and see what these people are doing and I get the opportunity to just talk to them strike up conversations now at this time I'm not telling them about Jesus I'm just getting to know these people but they see who I am I'm not cussing with them they see I've got a water in my hand I'm not drinking so they see there is a difference in what I'm doing compared to what they're doing okay now I finally decid it's probably time
For me to leave I've been there for an hour maybe two hours and as I'm leaving I walk by some of the tables that I've stried up conversations at and I hand them a little card and on this card it's a biker church so I've also my friend Chris Stevens he owns the butcher shop and I we were God has blessed us with the ability to start a church for bikers right here in Campton and so that's where I'm at on the fourth Sunday normally I didn't plan well Cody asked me to preach and I said sure well I didn't say sure at first I was like I don't know that's that's kind of a different crowd but I felt like God was telling me that you better do it so I called Cody up and I say Cody I need to do this and I didn't realize that it's on the fourth Sunday so they're having biker church right now but anyways I get to share this card with the people that hey this is a biker church this is you know and I and I get to start to kind of give a little conversation about Jesus and I get to pray with all the people at that table well I pray with them I tell them about Christ I move on to the exit and the table a few tables away said they said I overheard your conversation I'd like you to pray for me I want to I want to know about this biker church and what you guys are standing for and so I get to pray with another group of people at a bar on a random Thursday night okay God can use us wherever we are in whatever we're doing but it's our job to seek him through Scripture and prayer and he will guide us where to where we are to go if we're willing to follow and be obedient so if you guys would stand with me in honor of God's word as we read Mark 1:1 14-20 now after John was arrested Jesus came into Galilee proclaiming the Gospel of God and saying the time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand repent and believe in the Gospel passing along the side Sea of
Galilee he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea for they were fishermen and Jesus said to them follow me and I will make you become Fishers of Men and immediately they left their Nets and followed him and going on a little further he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother who were in their boats mending their Nets and immediately he called them and they left their father's zebedy in the boat with the hired servants and followed him we're going to pray real quick and get into the sermon here so father I just Lord I come to you today Lord and I thank you for this opportunity to share your word Lord father I ask that you just open the hearts of those here and those listening online Lord that you allow them to hear your words Lord not my words father allow me to be a v for you and to share what you want your people to hear today Father we pray this in the name of your son Jesus amen you guys be seated so now so I've read this passage many times the first two verses 14 and 15 never really hit me until here recently after John was arrested Jesus came into Galilee proclaiming the Gospel of God and saying the time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand what does John being arrested have to do with the story is it just for context well I don't believe so I believe this is the time John being arrested is starting the time to be fulfilled so remember John's purpose was to prepare the way for Jesus for the Messiah it establishes that John was not the one sent and now it's time for Jesus to step into start his ministry so Jesus came proclaiming the Gospel and he was calling people to repentance and believe this is very important to
Understand because this is what he's going to teach his disciples to do and they're not only going to learn how to do it they're going to live it out as well which is what it means in the next verses when he's calling out the first disciples Jesus is commanding repentance this is the first command that he gives us in this passage and being a command this is probably a pretty important detail detail to pay attention to so what is repentance repentance is a change the root of the word means to turn or to return to God from the world if you are living for yourselves and doing things that make you feel good or doing things that are is not from God then you are to repent Jesus the king tells us this turn from your wants and your ways and seek him and his ways have your kids ever looked at you and said I'm sorry Mom I'm sorry Dad that I lied again in I know it's not right and they look upset but the very next day they're lying straight to your face again man that's frustrating okay but this is this is exactly what we do to God a lot of times we're not called to do that we're called to actually change our Behavior behaviors to repent and to turn away from that behavior to not be following in that same that same line not just doing what our kids do to us a lot of times I have a friend and the saying in their house they use this often is repentance is isn't where there are tears repentance is where there is change just like we know our kids are actually sorry and they actually mean it when you see a true change in their behavior this is how we are to repent before God to make a change of action not just speak that I'm sorry the next thing Jesus says in verse
15 and the second command he gives us is Believe In The Gospel but before we can truly believe in something we must know and understand what it is so what is the Gospel a lot of us heard the Gospel is the good news but what is good news what is the good news the good news is that God loves us enough that he sent his son to save us from Eternal death Jesus is telling us we must believe this and we must believe that he is the one sent from God the Gospel of God as described by AR sprouls is incredibly impactful he says that no one can hear the Gospel and walk away indifferent amen when someone receives the Gospel it is the greatest moment of his life but if he rejects the Gospel he brings the greatest judgment on himself we call it the Gospel of God because it's the good news that God's promise and God's kingdom is being fulfilled here on Earth just as John was preaching so in order for you to receive the Savior which is the Gospel or the good news you must repent and believe so passing along the Sea of gal he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea for they were fishermen and Jesus said to them follow me and I will make you become Fishers of Men and immediately they left their Nets and followed him so here we have Jesus giving us our third command Jesus called us to repent and to believe and now he's calling us to follow him and he will make us Fishers of Men so what does it mean to follow Jesus well it's actually pretty simple if you call yourself a Christian because you believe the Gospel and believe Jesus is who he says he is you believe that he has done what he says he's done and you've repented and turned away then you are a follower of
Jesus as a follower of Jesus he calls us to share the Gospel to become a fisher of men now he isn't going to send us out there like a door too salesman that doesn't know a stuff you know you've seen these Rainbow Vacuum people they just come in there and vacuum your carpet hey look how good it looks you know buy one of these $2,000 vacuums no thanks but he's going to teach us how to be a Fisher a fisher of men okay in fact before you even knew that you were being called to this he was preparing you just didn't know it you know I love riding motorcycles but I also love Jesus I didn't know that I was going to be riding motorcycles to tell people about Jesus you know it used to scare me to share my faith because I didn't want people to think I was just some weirdo just out there telling them how to live okay but that's what Jesus has called us to do you might say well I have a boring I have a boring life I was saved as a young child but everybody young or old has had something in their life maybe they've had a death in their family maybe they've lost a father a brother a child someone close to them maybe they're they're going through a depression or they've had a sickness might be going in the past it might be going on right now but that's a chance to relate with somebody and you know it's not just bad stuff maybe you're into quilting photography and you're out there taking pictures of God's creation and the beauty and someone comes up to you and says man this is beautiful that's an opportunity to share the Gospel maybe you own your own business and have the ability to show God's love through helping people out from time to time literally almost anything that God has done in your life or a talent that
He's given you or a gift he's given you is a tool to share the Gospel so we've talked about what following Jesus looks like he tells us follow me and I will teach you to become Fishers of Men the question is how do we become Fishers of Men how do we prepare what does fishing for men look like so single ladies this isn't a sermon on how to you know find your husband and reel one of them guys and that's not the kind of fishing for men we're looking for here okay we're looking we're trying to fish for men and it starts with preparing our hearts and our minds meaning we must be in the Bible reading and studying we must be in the Bible we must be in prayer building that relationship with God so we can learn to hear his voice telling us where to go and what to do I mentioned earlier that I have a lot of kids take a kid fishing or a few kids fishing with you these they're not prepared they have no tools they have no idea how to tie a knot or Bait A Hook okay or even cast correctly they throw the pole out there they release the button and what happens right into a tree branch okay now the kids are starting to get agitated they're they're lure is stuck in a tree Dad's getting agitated because they're not just out there doing it okay well wouldn't it have been a lot easier if you were at home with your child and showed them how to tie knots before you went out there to teach them how to bait a hook correctly where it won't fly off on their first cast or how about tie a weight to the end of the string or they've got those fake rubber fish that are weighted you put one of those on there and they can practice casting out in the yard where it's open this is an example of what God what we're supposed to do with
Christ we're not supposed to just jump right out there and not be educated not be like that door to-door salesman I was talking about we need to be in the word reading understanding being in prayer and allowing God to teach us how to become Fishers of Men kind of went off script again there so practicing small and working into it and soon we will be casting our Nets out there and God will fill that net to overflowing okay and we'll have to call our friends just like the disciples did to help us come reel in all these people for Jesus moving along to 19 through2 going on a little further he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother who were in their boat mending their Nets and immediately he called to them and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him are you this willing to follow Jesus are you willing to give up all that you have I mean James and John just dropped what they were doing and left their father and business and all they had to follow Jesus so who else has this image of Jesus shouting from the shore to some people on a ship like hey you come follow me okay well that would be crazy right I mean why would they just do it would you leave work if some guy's walking by and like hey follow me you know no I wouldn't so this is where we look back at the Scriptures like Luke Chapter 5 and it says the Scriptures show us a more in depth picture of what's going on Jesus had already had a relationship with these men he already planted a seed he already showed them who he was he spent time walking with them he spent time in their house he spent time on their boats with them and
So when he said follow me they weren't hearing it for the first time from someone they didn't know they heard it from someone they trusted and believed in what they were saying so like my interaction at the bar where I started a conversation with people they started to trust me because I was a friend to them you know I knew they knew who I was they knew that I wasn't drinking that I wasn't cussing and you know they saw something different so when I was able to pre to tell them about the Gospel and to tell them about Jesus they were actually willing to listen to what I was doing to what I was saying because God had prepared their hearts they knew who I was and what I stood for and they saw something different so they said we'll we'll take the time to listen to this man now guys and gals we are called by God to follow Christ and to preach the Gospel and I'm not saying you must quit your job or leave your family and I don't believe God is saying that to everyone either but what we are required to do is to trust him and be willing to give up things and follow him so let's put this in a real life situation most of us live busy lives filled with hundreds of worldly things like work we have ball practice extra sleep God knows I love naps cell phones TVs so on but how much time are we putting into following Christ are we allowing Christ to be at the top of our list or are we allowing him to be way down here you know after the ball practices after the TV show and that's if we're giving him the time at all each day the disciples had Jesus to teach them and walk with them and we do too but he's not walking in the Physical Realm with us okay like they were there we have his word and we talk to him through prayer
And listening to what he's telling us to do okay so just because the disciples had him physically there to show them what to do we still have that opportunity today because of the Bible because of his word and because of the Holy Spirit and allowing us to interact with God and so friends we must be willing to lay down these things just like John James and John did and follow him the Bible uses the word immediately several times times in Mark and twice in this passage as we read as we just read the men he called knew of Jesus and had a relationship with him so when he called them they knew what they had to do and they knew that they had to do it immediately so they left their Nets and followed him when we have that kind of relationship with Jesus and believe in what he can do and will do we must be ready to follow immediately I heard this quote the other day that says delayed obedience is Disobedience when he calls on us we need to be ready to respond we need to be laying down our wants and die to ourselves daily to follow Christ and he will teach us to become Fishers of Men following Jesus is not easy but it is worth it when he calls us to follow him to repent and to believe leave he calls us to be all in too many of us including myself at times are wanting to walk the fence we have one foot in the world and one trying to please God we cannot walk in the world as the world remember we are called to repent from that life have you seen the t-shirt that says I love Jesus but I cuss a little or I'm a little Jesus and a little hook well friends we can't be both I get what the shirts are saying that although we love Jesus we're still human and we fail at times but we cannot be effective Fishers of Men if we are
Showing the world that we are not different and that we have not changed and that we have not repented why would they want what we have if it's the same as what they already are doing does this make sense remember we are commanded to believe part of believing is being obedient if we truly believe then we will be obedient and believing in trusting that he is who he says he is and can do what he says he can do so when the disciples drop their Nets and follow Jesus that was a show of their belief in who he was and that was them being obedient and we are called called to repent to believe and to follow him so Cody said this was short we're going to wrap it up here with head Heart and Hand head following Jesus is an all-in commitment we are to repent and believe repent meaning to change our actions going from living for the worldly things to living for Christ heart believe believe that God sent his son to be our Savior believe that Jesus is who he says he is who says he who he said he was and he was crucified to pay for our sins so that we can have eternal life with the father and hand repent and believe in Christ follow Jesus and learn to become Fishers of Men through a growing relationship with the father studying his word and praying daily church I thank thank you for allowing me to come and to present this message to you and God [Applause] bless I'd invite you to stand and join me as we sing in Christ alone my hope is found In Christ Alone My Hope Is found he my light my strength my song this corstone this Solid

Ministry we were with the Bonners that day doing some staining their their ramp and clearing up stuff and all that kind of stuff anyways no real relationship with Christ but through that we were able to share the Gospel with them and get a bigger platform earlier this week my neighbor John he passed but he didn't go unwarmed he didn't go into eternity without at least hearing about the hope that Christ offered amen and that's one of the things that we should be doing you know leaving the fruit up to the Lord it's not up to us to save men and women but it is up to us to share about Christ okay repent believe the Gospel and follow him now we're going to transition into our time of communion today and if you have not received one of these during our time of just internal inspection of ourselves where we consider our relationship with the Lord be sure to go to one of these entrances and receive these elements if you are a Christian if not you know just sit there and kind of consider what's going on but if you would bow your heads and close your eyes with me and consider the glory of Christ and what he's done and so God we do thank you for the relationship that we have with you and that you invite us to your table to remember Lord your body and your blood Lord it's by those elements that we were Justified Lord your skin your very flesh was pierced you were beaten you were scourged and Lord you did that for our Redemption Lord we thank you so much for it Lord now we don't have that punishment as those who have repented and believed Lord we don't have that punishment over us anymore but now we have security through your body through your blood that we are
Indeed children of God and we thank you for that hope in Jesus precious name amen the Scripture says in 1 Corinthians 11 says for I reive from the Lord what I also delivered to you that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread and when he had given thanks he broke it and said this is my body which is for you do this in remembrance of me take the bread and eat with me Lord we thank you for your bread that representation of your body which was crushed for our sins and Lord our minds turn to the drink and we thank you Lord for the Beauty and the mystery and the terror Lord that you suffered it was such a terrible thing not in a fearful way God but that you took on the full Wrath of the father for all who would trust in you and we thank you Lord for that now we are fully redeemed with the wrath of God no longer remaining on us because youve made a way and we thank you for that and our hearts are full of joy and Lord we would just remember that help us Lord to conduct ourselves in that way that is true in Jesus name amen the Scripture says in the same way also he took the cup after supper he said this cup is the New Covenant my blood do this and often as you drink it in remembrance of me take the juice and drink with me for as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes I love you Church
