Minds on the things of God not of man for he is our Savior to be praised and he's our holy Lord God Almighty please stand if you're able and join us in singing praises to our Lord this morning we will glorify the King of Kings we will glorify his throne we will glorify the Lord of Lord who is The Great I Am Lord Jehovah reign in Majesty we will bow before his throne we will worship Him in rightous we will worship him alone he is Lord of Heaven and Lord of Earth he is Lord of all who live he is Lord of the universe all praise to him we [Music] give Hallelujah to the King of Kings Hallelujah to the lamb Hallelujah to the Lord of lords who is The Great I Am Hallelujah to the King of Kings Hall to the lamb Hallelujah to the Lord of lords who is the great [Music] am God is so good and merciful and we just want to reflect on that today [Music] Wonderful Merciful saor precious Redeemer and friend who would have thought that a lamb could resue The Souls of men oh you res The Souls of men you are the one that we pra you are the one we adore you give the healing and gra our hearts always hunger for oh our hearts for counselor comforter keeper Spirit we love to embrace you areer hope our hope have hopelessly lost the way oh we way you are the one that we praise you are the one we adore you give the healing and Grace our hearts always hunger for oh our hearts [Music] Almighty infinite father Faithfully Ling your own here in our weakness you find us

Falling before your throne oh we're throne you are the one that we praise you are the one we adore you give the healing and Grace our hearts always hunger for oh our hearts for you are the one that we pra you are the one we adore you give the healing and Grace our hearts always hunger for oh our hearts H am well church are we glad to be here today it's good to be in the house of the Lord right well as codyy mentioned on the offering and I repeat this before myself because I'm forgetful regular offering if you want to donate for the HVAC system use the envelopes that have the HVAC symbol on it bottom right and then the survey if you want to put them in the offering so our plates are going to be overflowing today which is a good thing but let's just go to our God In Prayer God our Father we just come before you thanking you for who you are and for briding the grace and mercy that you have shown to us providing us the Salvation that we dearly need we just thank you for the opportunity to give back a portion of the many blessings you have given us we ask that you bless that utilize it for the spreading of your word throughout this area and the world we pray this in Christ's name amen life sometimes throws us the unexpected but nothing is unexpected with God sorry yes go ahead I'll be reading from Romans chapter 10 verses 5-13 this morning and it says for Moses writes that the man who practices the righteousness which is based on law shall live by that righteousness but the righteousness based on faith speaks thus do not say in your heart who will Ascend into heaven that is to bring Christ down or who will descend into Abyss that is to bring

Christ up from the dead but what does it say the word is near you in your mouth and in your heart that is the word of faith which we are preaching but if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead you shall be saved for with the heart man believes resulting in righteousness and with the mouth he confesses resulting in Salvation for the Scripture saith whoever believes in him will not be disappointed for there is no distinction between Jew and Greek for the same Lord is Lord of all abounding in riches for all who call upon him for whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved amen and I bet y'all didn't expect me to interrupt Spencer anyway so as I was saying yeah things happen that are completely unexpected but they do not take God by Sur prist and so we can rest in his goodness and his kindness so if you could stand and sing with us as we sing that truth today Jesus strong and [Music] kind Jesus said that if I thirst I should come to him no one else can [Music] satisfy I should come to him Jesus said if I am weak I should come to him no one else can be my strength I should come to him for the Lord is good and faithful he will keep us day and night we can always run to Jesus Jesus strong and [Music] kind Jesus said that if I fear I should come to him no one else can be my shield I should come to him Jesus said if I am lost he will come to me and he showed me on that cross he will come to

Me for the Lord is good and faithful he will keep us day and night we can always run to Jesus Jesus strong and kind for the Lord is good and faithful he will keep us day and night [Applause] we can always run to Jesus Jesus strong and kind Jesus strong and [Music] kind holy Lord God almight early in the morning Our Song shall rise to [Music] thee holy mer merciful and mighty God in three person Blessed Trinity holy all the saints Adore Thee casting down their golden CRS around the glass he SE Cher up in and [Music] S falling down before the which word and ever more shall be holy th the darkness hide thee though the Eye of Sin thy Glory may not see only Thou Art holy there is none beside thee perfect in power love and [Music] pity holy Lord God almightyy all thy Works shall praise thy

Name in Earth and Sky and sea holy hly merciful and Mighty God in three person bless trity sing that out one more time holy merciful and mighty God is in three blessed [Music] trity Lord we praise you for the good and mighty works that you were doing and you have done I pray Lord for our hearts to be soften to your word and that we would conform more into the image of Christ denying our flesh and what our culture says is true but completely unifying with your truth God I pray for pastor Cody today as he preaches your word that you would humble him that he would submit to you and that you would give him the words to speak and that nothing would be out of self ambition or Pride God but that he just solely relies on you we love you and we thank you for this time it's in Jesus' name amen all right just an FYI it looks like Corwin's doing a okay so thankful for that you're all right buddy hey we if you have your Bible and I hope that you do please turn with me to the Book of Mark Book of Mark chap 8 we're going to be in starting in verse 27 and we're going to go through verse 33 your Bible might have it divided up into different sections just so you know in your Bible those little titles that are there are not part of the inspired word of God okay those are called periscopes okay periscopes it helps us to divide the sections so that way it's

Easier to navigate okay but the authors didn't include them in the writings and Jesus he's he's going to be asking a couple of questions in today's passage and there're ones that we need to be looking at as well who do you say that I am or who do people say that I am you know people people might say Jesus is a good man or a good teacher or a great moral character right of course he is all those things but he's not only that if you're a Muslim you believe that Jesus is a prophet was Jesus a prophet absolutely was he only a prophet no way is he the Messiah yes but what does that even mean and these professions of Faith they are willfully inadequate for saving Faith the Bible teaches us that Jesus is much more than just a good man or a good Prophet or a good teacher or moral example in fact John he writes this at the beginning of his Gospel here it says in the beginning was the word and the Word was with God and the Word was God he was in the beginning with God all things were made through him and without him was not anything made that was made verse 14 and the word became flesh and dwelt among us and we have seen his glory glory as of the only son from the father Full of Grace and Truth for over 2 and a half years Jesus has revealed more and more of himself to the disciples at the beginning of his ministry we see Andrew coming to Peter saying we have found the Messiah Nathaniel he declares Rabbi you are the Son of God you are the king of Israel after the events on the Sea of Galilee where Christ calmed the waves In The Wind in the Book of Matthew it says the disciples bowed and worshiped him and said truly you are the Son of God and yet for all of their understanding they did not see Christ clearly isn't that

Fascinating to be able to say yes Jesus is the son of God yes Jesus is the Messiah but still not to know him to understand the purpose of his mission there remained a veil over their eyes a spiritual blindness and a dullness remained just like what we talked about last week with Christ healing the blind man as an illustration of the disciples spiritual blindness and yet Jesus is not going to just tear away that Veil he's going to progressively reveal more and more of himself and his purpose and his ministry so let's see what we can learn together as we stand together and read Mark 8: 27-33 God's word says this and Jesus went on with his disciples to The Villages of cesaria Philippi and on the way he asked his disciples who do people say that I am they told him John Baptist and others say Elijah and others one of the prophets and he asked them but who do you say that I am Peter answered him you are the Christ and he strictly charged them to tell no one about him and he began to teach them that the son of man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed and after three days rise again and he said this plainly and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him and turning and seeing his disciples he rebuked Peter and said get behind me Satan for you are not setting your mind on the things of God but on the things of man and so Lord we do thank you for your word we pray that today that we would rightly apply your word to our hearts and then into our lives God don't let us leave here with just more information but let us experience the full transformation of the spirit whereby you conform us into the image of

Your son I pray that you would be with this congregation Lord and that your Holiness that your Holy Spirit would just Pierce our hearts and really powerful and unique ways Lord let us experience more of you and fall more and more in love with you God let us behold more of your glory and as you revealed more of your more of this truth of who you are to the disciples Lord if there's any spiritual blindness that remains in any of our Lives God I pray that you would peel away those layers today give us a great sense of who you are in Jesus name amen well our passage begins with a 25 mile Journey up to the region of cesaria Philippi you'll remember that we were down here in Betha this is on the Northern Shores of the Sea of Galilee you'll see that this is the Jordan River and there's a little little stream it's really hard to see on this map here but it the headwaters of the Jordan start up here at cesaria Philippi and you should probably know a little bit about that area it was under the rulership I guess the kingship of this man named Herod not AG gria like what we've seen in the book so far but by Phillip Herod Philip the tetrarch he rebuilt this city and he renamed it CES of Philippi it's the location of a spring in this where the spring starts is actually a cave known as pan Grotto the if you were to look this up on the Internet it's called instead of panas the place of pan it is known as Banas because in Arabic they don't have a p sound in their in their language that spring and we're going to look it up here soon this is the Greek God pan you remember him he's the guy with the goat legs okay he plays a flute he's a fertility God so this is the most modest picture that I could

Find he this was a place of tremendous paganism immorality there was a temple complex that was built here you'll see all these little alcoves that are developed here okay they would set little statues to other Greek Gods you think of like Zeus and the likes of them Poseidon guys like that but you had this city that was dedicated to the Greek God pan a temple complex that was actually being constructed when Jesus came to this region okay did Jesus actually go here to Phil cesaria Philippi well it says that he came to the Villages around cesaria Philippi and another parts of the Scriptures it says that Christ withdrew to pray but nonetheless it's in this Pagan area this place of heavy Greek influence and just straight u I don't know we would call them Abominations and idolatry that we see this great confession here's Pan's Grotto this is part of the Jordan River that spring produces four times as much water as hahha Springs does every year okay so you're talking about just an absolute ton of water I did the math I forgot to write it down because it was too big that's why I'm a pastor I'm not a mathematician so but the Scriptures say that Jesus was in this region and he's asking these people who his disciples who do people say that I am and that's a really good question typically it was the disciples that asked rabbis the question questions and yet Jesus was not an ordinary Rabbi he asked these questions with a tremendous purpose who do people say that I am that word people is the word anthropos which is where we get the word anthropology humankind Humanity man right who do who does Humanity say that I am in the Gospel of Mark that word man or anthropos when it occurs is usually a term to describe people that still have a veil remaining over their

Eyes it's a word used to describe the 5000 who even though they had partaken in Christ's blessings they still did not understand that Jesus was God it was used to describe the Leading Men of Galilee who attended herod's party in the subsequent beheading of John the Baptist Jesus he used that term the Commandments of men and their hard-heartedness toward God so when Jesus says who do you say that I am this reminds us of that question that we've been asking over and over in The Book of Mark is what will you do with Jesus Christ there is nothing more important than answering that question what will you do with that word with that question what will you do with Jesus there's very few ultimate questions and how you respond determines your Eternal destination the father he spoke it from Heaven you are my beloved Son with you I am well pleased the demons they said I know who you are the Holy One Of God others said you are the son of God it's not just merely knowing it's not just merely agreeing with it there's a change of heart that takes place the father he said it and in Jesus he asks on the way to cesaria Philippi and Luke he clarifies this look at Luke chapter 9 ver8 now it happened that as he was praying alone he was withdraw he withdrew to pray I don't know what Jesus was praying about he was just spending time with the father but I do believe that he had a sense that his ministry was going to begin wrapping up two and a half years into his three and a half year Ministry this is when the Great hinge swings in Jesus's Ministry this is halfway through the Book of Mark we're now halfway through the Book of Mark now and you're going to notice everything changes from here on out how he teaches what he teaches about the kind of encounters

That take place the whole narrative has been building to this Crescendo the disciples they had asked a couple of chapters ago who is this man that even the wind and the waves obey him and we're going to get that answer but what did people say about Jesus well they said that he was John the Baptist they said that he was Elijah one of the other prophets you might be surprised to note that no one said that he was the Messiah and I believe that's not listed there because it was the Holy Spirit that revealed that to Peter in the same way there are many children and grandchildren there's many neighbors and co-workers that have had the Gospel clearly laid out for them they have seen it they have experienced the powerful preaching in the worship services and yet a veil Still Remains on their heart because the spirit has not removed that from them for whatever reason too great and too wonderful for me to comprehend God does this and so what did the crowd say well Jesus is John the Baptist and that was one of the big rumors at this point in time Herod Antipas the guy who cut off his head was terrified that might be the truth maybe he's back from the dead others said that was Elijah he was a guy in the Old Testament who had one of the most unique endings to his time on Earth can't really say that was death maybe it was maybe it wasn't we don't know he was just taken one of the other prophets but everyone agreed that Jesus was a prophet and a teacher which was true but incomplete and many people atheists included they regard Jesus with the highest esteem and the highest Honors that we have here on Earth a wonderful example of humanity to strive for the best of the best and so Jesus he turns that question into something much more personal not what do others say about me but what do

You say about me and how would you answer that question not who is Jesus to you but who is Jesus of Nazareth and Peter he declares something really wonderful he says you are the Christ I mean wow now we look at that and we say that is an amazing profession of faith and even Jesus takes time to say blessed are you Simon because the father has revealed that to you but what did Peter or yeah Peter mean by that what did Peter mean by you are the Christ the Messiah well those are synonyms Christ is a Greek word Messiah is the Hebrew word and it means the anointed one in other words Christ was specifically chosen by God for something that was truly unique and special when it came to anointing in the Old Testament it was for a couple of things the first way that we see it played out is in as like the Kings the Kings they were anointed we see that play out with Saul with King David with Solomon all of the Kings they were anointed by the prophets but you know the prophets they were also anointed to the office as well we see for example in First Kings when Elijah is trying to find his replacement he passes by Elisha and he takes his cloak and puts it over him as a sign of that anointing that has taken place that he has been called to be a prophet we also see it in the anointing of priests in Exodus 28: 40-41 for Aaron's sons you shall make coats and sashes and caps you shall make them for Glory and Beauty frivolity right and you shall put them on Aaron your brother and on his sons with him and shall anoint them and ordain them and consecrate them that they may serve me as priests when I use that word frivolity I don't mean needlessly I mean extravagantly

Beautifully that they were anointed and ordained and chosen as priests and it's not a coincidence that Jesus Christ he fulfills that three-fold office of prophet priest and King because it was God's plan from the foundation of world there's no chance there did Peter know that was his profession no he didn't know what he meant by that he just knew that was that Jesus was the anointed one the Christ but not with all the details in fact people had all sorts of presuppositions of what the Messiah would be like just like everyone has assumptions of what Jesus's Second Coming would be like right that term Messiah it was in reference to the kingly line of David so the teachers and scribes all believe that the Messiah that who would Rule and he would reign in an eternal Kingdom with all the authority and blessings and Promises to David it was a common theme for the prophets listen to what Jeremiah 23 says behold the days are coming declares the Lord when I will raise up for David A righteous branch and he shall reign as king and deal wisely and shall execute Justice and righteousness in the land in his days Judah will be saved and Israel will dwell securely and this is the name by which he will be called the Lord is our righteousness we look at that you know it's no surprise that people expected Jesus to be a political leader there was plenty of Scripture to back it up in the first century there was a piece of Jewish lit literature called The Psalm of Solomon okay it's not a part of God's word but it is a historical document and I put it in here because I think it's important for us to understand what people believe the Messiah would be like listen to what it says see Lord and raise up for them their King the son of David to rule over your servant Israel underg him with the

Strength to destroy the unrighteous rulers to purge Jerusalem from Gentiles who trample her to destruction in wisdom and in righteousness to drive out the sinners from The Inheritance to smash the arrogance of Sinners Like A Potter's jar to shatter all their substance with an iron Rod to destroy unlawful nations with the word of his mouth at his warning the Nations will flee from his presence and he will condemn Sinners by the thoughts of their hearts so that's what the average Jewish person would was believing about what the Messiah Ministry would be like you know disappointment is it comes about from unmet expectations and so when Jesus reveals this truth about himself that yes I am the Christ immediately you can sense people getting excited Peter got the confession right he was blessed Jesus in the parallel text it says Matthew 16:17 and Jesus Jesus answered blessed are you Simon barjona for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you but my father who is in heaven the father had drawn them the son revealed himself to them the spirit is opening their eyes and so what Jesus does here is he sternly and strictly tells them don't tell anyone do you see why he tells them not to tell anyone it's because all of a sudden his ministry would turn into a political theater it would turn into something that was not a part of God's plan he knew what their presuppositions of Christ being Messiah meant you can sense the excitement from Simon the Zealot I knew it I knew it we get to destroy these guys or maybe even Levi's worry man I used to work for those guys where where's my role in all of this and yet Christ immediately begins

Correcting this error the door has swung and he begins to describe what being the Messiah actually means that's why it says Jesus began to teach them he began to teach them that the son of man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed and after three days Rise Again of course we've already seen plenty of encounters between the Pharisees and Jesus at this point there was an increasing animosity between the religious establishment and Messiah and eventually it would not end up with him having some great military Victory where the people Revolt inside with the Messiah But it includes his suffering and his death the son of man would be rejected he would be murdered but he would rise again after 3 days that is Christ's point in teaching the disciples About the Passion that he would endure in fact Jesus is just simply pointing them to other passages in the Old Testament like Isaiah 53 he was despised and rejected by men a Man of Sorrows and acquainted with grief as and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised and we esteemed him not surely he has not borne our G surely he has borne our grief and carried our sorrows yet we esteemed him stricken Smitten by God and Afflicted but he was pierced for our transgressions he was crushed for our iniquities upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace and with his wounds we are healed all we like sheep have gone astray we have turned everyone to his own way and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all he was oppressed and he was afflicted yeah he opened not his mouth like a lamb that is led to the slaughter

And like a sheep that is before his shears is silent so he opened not his mouth by oppression and judgment he was taken away and as for his generation who considered that he was cut off from the land of the living stricken for the transgression of my people and they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death although he had done no violence there was no deceit in his mouth yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him he has put him to grief when his soul makes an offering for Guilt he shall see his offering he shall prolong his days the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied by his knowledge shall the righteous one my servant make many to be accounted righteous and he shall bear their iniquities therefore I will divide him a portion with the many he shall divide the spoil with a strong because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors yet he bore the sin of many and makes intercession for the transgressors amen so when Jesus said the son of man must suffer it shows the purpose of God and Christ's Devotion to the father's plan that the Scripture must be fulfilled from The Shame of the Cross to the resurrection of Christ all Scripture must be fulfilled and so it's significant that Christ he expressly repeats this teaching in the next two chapters he keeps revisiting it because it's the entire purpose of his ministry and he's bringing it up two and a half years in Salvation must happen through a suffering Messiah whose plan is it's God Almighty's plan God became flesh in order to live a perfect sinless Life To Die For Wicked Sinners Like Me and like you this is why no one saw this coming and if we are to confess Christ we must

Embrace a suffering Messiah because it is a narrow road it is a difficult road that leads to Salvation and we're to walk this path it means that you know you're going to be lied about you're going to be misunderstood you're going to be vilified you're going to be hated by others and yet we do it through innocence you see big point for us is that the way of Christ is the way of suffering because our Savior suffered it's a truth that we must walk in and therein lies the difficulty of being a Christian Jesus would be rejected that word means to count off like on a test or to disqualify someone but who are the ones that reject Christ well it's the elders it's the chief priests it's the teachers of the law it's not the worst Sinners that Humanity has to offer that winds up crucifying Christ it's the best of the best it's the most moral it's the ones with the best reputations it's not the Gentile pagans that participate in human sacrifice it's not members of an opposing political party it's moral men it's good men that are willing to kill God these men knew the law they knew the prophets that just teaches us something else that we need to be aware of is that the best and most moral among us will justify evil even killing God's son it's not morality that saves it's faith alone in Jesus Christ it's not about your church membership it's not about how many times you were baptized one it's not about any of what you do it's about what has been done for you on your behalf because of Christ amen and these men they're not they're not just responding in unbridled anger

They're plotting it they're carefully responding to it they're setting traps and they're justifying their actions using God's Own word and God's Own law to kill God's own son Jesus he searched for with warrants and officials and is tried and convicted and exec uted because it was God's will to crush his son Jesus didn't fall into the hands of wicked men he placed himself there and sovereignly executed the plan and Jesus he explains all this plainly that word plainly In this passage it's the word parisia which means to use a lot of words and to explain it clearly there's no misunderstanding on behalf of the disciples and we know that because Peter contradicts him no Jesus he got this wrong you're way off Bas here but what Jesus is do doing is he's shepherding his flock to understand his death his burial and the resurrection of the Messiah and Jesus he explains everything clearly he's not using Parables and illustra ations and things like that but Peter and the other disciples they're offended they're shocked the Messiah is going to be killed that's no way it's inconceivable it's offensive it's out of line with everything that everyone's everever taught me I've never heard that before I can't can't tell you how many times I've heard that as the pastor here he's Peter is so committed to the traditional vision of what he's been taught about the Messiah that the Messiah is supposed to defeat the Romans to overthrow the unfaithful to establish the Jewish Kingdom of Israel and Peter he had the title right but he had the identity wrong recently my wife she got a phone call I'm going to tell that story of the oh what you call it the fingers and what do you call it when you get

Your nails done manicure manicure pedicure and that cancel it yeah okay all right I added this like late last night because I was like this fits so anyways so am Amber gets a phone call from this beauty shop I don't even know what you call them these days but confirming a manicure and pedicure appointment and we had I didn't schedule it okay and she hadn't scheduled it and Amber harlo is this you yeah this is this is me and she winds up canceling those appointments anyways couple of days go past and all of a sudden our neighbor she goes Amber did you have a manicure or pedicure appointment well yeah I got a call but I canel it I'd never heard of that well it turns out that there's another Amber harlo here at Lake of the Ozarks okay who is not nice and wound up cursing everyone out there and so when someone said Amber harlo did that you gotta be kidding me you know like thankfully it was just a case of mistaken identity which is exactly what we have here Peter had the identity right he had the function completely wrong right name wrong identity and we've seen Jesus rebuke the disciples and telling them don't tell anyone that I'm the Messiah it's that Greek word epito okay but now Jesus is the object of a rebuke apparently Jesus he takes Peter off just a little bit to the side but still enough to where the disciples can see it is probably still somewhat of a public rebuke where people could overhear and apparently Peter's words mirrored their thoughts and their feelings as well and how quickly things have turned in our passage I love it how John MacArthur puts it he said that Peter's gone from being a spokesman for

God to being a mouthpiece of Satan how do you respond when God's plan is not your own plan what's your reaction you respond with anger or maybe even rebukes or Corrections what if we're setting our thoughts and our minds on the things of man rather than the things of God in those moments we should be open to this kind of correction from Christ as well remember that Jesus was tempting that Jesus was being tempted by Satan at his temptation to forgo the cross Satan said if you would just simply Bow Down and Worship me then I'll give you all the kingdoms of this world you don't have to endure the cross you don't have to endure the shame you don't have to endure the Separation The Suffering none of that I'll give it to you just have to worship me and the Temptation was to bypass the cross and yet Jesus he chose to obey the will of the father and he set his eyes towards Calvary look at what the passage says that's not my slide Matthew 16 okay thanks far be it from you Lord this shall never happen to you this is in the parallel passage but Jesus turned and said to Peter get behind me Satan you are a hindrance to me Peter is apparently doing the same thing which is easier for Christ use his Limitless power to overthrow an ungodly government and establish an Earthly Kingdom or to endure the shame and the suffering and the separation of the Cross Satan was still at work in the shadows around the ministry of Christ orchestrating and plotting and attempting to use the natural Wicked hearts of unregenerate men to destroy Jesus the son of God and one day Satan would succeed in his violent demise one day that would

Happen and also note that Satan isn't encouraging outright wickedness it's the path of least resistance that's what we are tempted to do so many times just a small compromise but remember that small compromises can lead to satanic plans being executed thank the Lord that he watches over us and he guards our hearts and we must also be vigilant to stand according to Ephesians 6 so don't miss the fact that Peter he is attempting to get Jesus to disobey the father he is trying to overthrow God's plans but he doesn't even know it yet he is being used by Satan and Jesus graciously okay sometimes the stern rebuke is full of grace I would say that a Stern rebuke from one that loves you is way more faithful than someone loving you to hell he's graciously sternly and forcefully reminding P Peter that you are a disciple and you're supposed to be following me not leading me get back in line that's literally how it can be translated there get behind me fall back in line and finally Point Jesus points Peter to the truth that there's two ways of receiving Jesus's teaching either from God's perspective or from man's perspective a Godly view versus a Godless view godly people are concerned about the things of God they desire to obey the word grow in God's Will and plan for their lives God's word is the ultimate Authority and yet the Godless they rely on things that are more natural there are some iions their gut feelings their philosophies human reasoning the Godless think about the world and the things that their hearts love and you know it's always good for us from time to time to assess our

Hearts and to think what do I really think about Jesus what do I think about this is my heart right with God or am I relying on my own personal philosophy am I seeking the kingdom of God in his righteousness or Am I Living For some other priority and that brings us back to the original question of what will you do with Jesus Christ who do you say that Jesus is and like we've discussed there's a hundred various thoughts which have some truth yet we need all the truth of who Jesus is and that this book of Mark has been building on this question since its first sentence Jesus is the Messiah he is the promised King from the seed of David and yet Peter doesn't understand that his role was to suffer and to die we're going to see what that means next week as we continue talking about discipleship and the cost of following Jesus and we can listen closely to the rebuke of Christ or we can Harden our hearts as clearly Judas did because he was in the that audience as well head heart hand oh head God wants you to know that Jesus Christ is the Messiah that came to this earth to suffer die to make atonement for sin and rose again on the third day so trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation today and if you need to talk with someone about it come down talk to me can do it after service if you don't want to walk forward that's fine the most important thing is that you do it today because you're not PR promis tomorrow you're not even promised an hour from now today is the day of salvation heart God wants you to believe that you must agree with him about these truths in order to be saved you can't be good enough you can't belong to enough churches none of those things save you

Except for what will you do with Jesus Christ who do you say that the son of man is in hand God wants you to profess Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord that atonement was sufficient for your sins so the question is what will you do with Jesus let's all stand together and let's respond in worship as I pray I pray that the Lord will work in your hearts as well and so God we do thank you for this great day that you've given to us we pray that we would rightly divide this word in our hearts Lord that it would fall fresh and new in our minds help us God to submit to you in all that we do in Jesus name [Music] amen above all power above all Kings above all nature and all created things above all wisdom and all the ways of [Music] men you were here before the world began Above All kingom Above All Thrones above all wers the world has ever known above all world and Treasures of the earth there's no way to measure what your crucified laid behind the stone you live to die rejected and alone like a rose trampled on the ground you took the fall we're glorified above all and so Lord we do thank you just for this day I thank you that you are above all things and that you receive all glory and wealth and honor and wisdom we just submit ourselves to you thank you for this time we pray that you would change our hearts even as we go from here keep us Lord until we return back together in the meantime help us to go

On mission to our jobs and to our families and our neighbors to bear witness of the truth that you are the Christ the son of the Living God that has radically transformed us and saved us help us Lord in Jesus name amen [Music] ch [Music]
